Hello,
I just love these kind of kicks thats short but strong.
Like the kinds of kicks Mike Shiver uses.

Sample:
Mike Shiver Kick

Track:
Solar Stone pres. Elizabeth Fields - Speak In Sympathy (Mike Shiver's Catching Sun Mix)

So is there anyone who can tell me how to create this kind of kick?
(Please save comments like "be original bla bla" for yourself)

have you tried sampling it?

and why dont you use your own kind of kick? something original...
[Alpha]Dave
no I haven't tried sampleing it, I want to create it.

try to get a short sample which occupies some bassy frequencies, use anything you have to make it the right envelope and then EQ and compress the hell out of it? :)

Hi Dave! Well, it was a drawn out process trying to clone a kick of that sort having to layer the right type of kick samples and fx! I'll explain later today because I am off to work now! Catch you later!

Cheers!

Well, all I did was pick out two different kick samples and layered them. Layered another kick to get some high end punch and rendered! I filtered the final sample down a little, added some standard eq, parametric eq and compression! Finally added a small hat to give the sample that 'tiss' sound which was in the original!

All quite easy really! The struggle was finding the samples in my kick packs that sounded similar!

Hope this helps!

thx steve! Yeah I understand exacly what u mean. I allready have those production skills so It won't be too hard to master that. But as u said, finding the right kicks from beginning, that is the the problem.

If you have a sub bass kick and a punchier kick it could be done! It'd take time but feasible! Check out a little tutorial I did a few days ago and see if that helps

it's all about the layering. using one kick is usually okay for a less massive track, but when you need that right amount of thump you have to layer and play with volume, decay, and sometimes even pitch shifting. Sometimes I even layer a lower snare over a kick to give it that extra mid-range punch.
Using layered kicks with a kick pattern other than your normal 4 on the floor style works really well too - think Gabriel & Dresden's remix of "'Till There Was You" by Rachael Starr. They must have at least 6 or 7 layered kicks in there to get that awesome 12-step pattern.
It's all about tinkering. Keep working until you find that perfect amount of thump and punch.
