Ya, seems nonsensical to have both.

lol, thought the thread title was "you can't buy lightsabers until you are 19+" :p

I agree with the law, with regards to rolling papers.. but the part regarding lighters is nonsensical because lighters can be used for more than smoking.

I don't see a point to not allowing kids to buy rolling papers. If they have cigarettes then they're going to smoke them regardless of whether or not they can get papers. If what they're trying to cut down on is people buying them for the purpose of smoking mary-j then that's even more stupid considering it's an illegal substance and isn't legal to smoke at any age.

I understand that they're just going to pool together everything smoking related to try and make it even harder for someone to smoke and whatnot but making tiny pieces of paper illegal to buy unless you're 19 is just ridiculous.

So what if you can't buy a lighter till you are 19?

You can go buy a blow torch @ Canadian Tire!

Lasts a lot longer...and you can light a smoke in a full wind, upside-down and from 3 feet away :D

Smoking accesories (papers, lighters, matches) are governed by a federal law that states you must be 18 to buy them. Selling tobbaco is a provincial law that says 19. Anyone who wont sell a lighter or zig zags to an 18 year old doesnt know the rules of dispencing.

I used to work in the giant ciggarette cage at work and they make sure you know the rules. There's serious fines for breaking those rules.

So go cut some tiny pieces off of some college-ruled and you'll have the same thing. Smoking papers are made for the express purpose of smoking things... and hence falls under:

i could care less if a 16 year old has problems buying rolling papers, whatever age is used to limits anything-- smoking, drinking etc. there are always ppl who are younger than the designated age who will bitch about it.

Yeah they must just not know the law. I'm sure he made the huge sign saying that the legal age to buy lighters and other cigarette accessories is 19 .

I know what I saw.

So can rolling papers...I make paper masks with them in my spare time.

The Ontario Government is going to be hitting smokers and young teens very hard in order to get people to quit or not start. The stupid thing is that the government makes so much money of cigarettes that they will never want people to actually quit. The government is being short sited and doesn't realize the economic impact it will have when no one can smoke. When that happens the goverment will have to find the next taboo item and tax the crap out of it.

I say we should encourage smoking.

Ah, another pointless discussion about pointless laws. I'm not really sure why it's such a big deal. The law is the law, as stupid as it is. If one place won't sell it to you, go to an owner who greedier, and I'm sure he will.
Granted the discrepancy in ages between federal and provincial laws is kind of pointless, but it's really not the only example of the stupidity of the government.
