That is not always a good thing. I know I'm being cynical but honestly Armin isn't even close to being the be all and end all of trance.

I can say you have definantly been a member much longer than I have but I have been listening to edm most of my life. Between my parents listening to most electronic/synth 80s music and my dad composing edm, I've pretty much always been a fan of it. What I see mostly on these forums though, is people bashing modern trance and most other modern forms of edm. This wasnt something specific to you UWM. This goes for much of this community here on TA. The point of my inqurie on this thread was what people thought would make for a good show on ASOT 200 with a tracklsit made of songs over the past 4-5 years. What was posted was mostly bashing of the show and some bashing of modern trance music. Now if it were only bashing of modern trance, I could let it slide and while no Armin is not the end-all-be-all of trance DJs, he is however a very important figure that we should all respect, regardless of tastes. If you love edm, you should atleast be able to offer him the respect he deserves as being one of the top 10 DJs in the world.

I just cant believe how much people on this forum bash trance music. Come on people, if you dont like it, then dont bother posting anything about the genre. This community is geared toward those who enjoy listening to trance and edm in general, not for saying 'trance sucks, its all the same ' or 'i wish armin van buuren would have a heart attack' and stupid liek that. Thats the kind of many of the composers and clubbers have to put up with from the mainstream public who listen to radio . If you want to be like them, then please, dont post comments that bash the genre many of us love and live for.

Cheers,
Zac

It would be the saddest day of my life....well, it would be up there. Wow, I would've thought you would've said someone like Richard Marks or Michael Bolton or Jennifer Lopez. Didn't think anyone on here could dislike AvB so much. Oh well, your loss.

Can't wait for ASOT 200!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And GDJB directly before!

There seems to be a misconception there with 'bashing trance music' and bashing armin etc. Just because we think Armin has gone to does not mean we're bashing trance music in general. The whole point is that trance has gone too serious, the fun has gone from it, and we're left with dull lifeless tunes on the whole. Fortunately there are still some gems out there, but it's so much harder to sift through the rubbish to find them. Also if you notice that most of those who bash armin have been here a long time. We've seen how good he can be, and how poor he's become, and as someone who claims to have listened to edm for ages, can you not appreciate that a lot of us believe that the earlier works were the best, there's just no comparison in quality between serenity/shivers and aria - dido or alibi - eternity. Not in a million years.

ASOT has went more commerical but that cums with a rise in poulairity. It shouldnt b a bad thing that more people listen 2 it than every before. But its still the biggest guage of big tunes coming out in the next couple of months compared 2 other shows. Its not like he is doing a Judge Jules ffs.

In addition i saw Armin live ladt Sat and he was brilliant as per usual. There wasa couple of tunes i didnt like (Serentiy n Shivers) but they got the crowd going. The rest was wot he does best.

Hey. I highly disagree with you Ian. You make a good point but personally, I think the issue is that the sound has changed from what you like and enjoy, not that it has become lifeless and dull, but it has just progressed into a different genre. I think Armins style has changed rather than gone to . I really think there is something other than trance music now being commercial, lifeless and dull, because I as well as a lot of other people believe that modern trance music is very good. Honestly, I enjoy older tunes just as much as I enjoy newer ones but I also think newer tunes have become softer, sometimes more melodic and less harsh than its older siblings of the past. Its not a difference of good and bad, its a difference of styles.

Would you please name some amazing tracks that Armin has been playing & producing the past year? Instead of using generalizations.
IDarkISwordI
Hey. Check the first page ;).
sandstorm03
So what you are telling me is that all thoes tracks that 90% of them sound exactly the same from 2004 and 2005 are good? Are any of them better then the tracks that you listed pre-2002? Honestly I think I could have came up with at least a better list of the 2005 tracks.

IDarkISwordI
Hey. I welcome you to do so. That was the point of the thread :). Oddly enough, those tracks that '90% sound the same' became big sellers. Interesting how they made a lot of money composing 'the exact same sounding' stuff. Thanks for disregarding my previous post btw ;).

Cheers,
Zac

I just checked out the TL so far for ASOT 200. I don't see how playing the same tracks he has caned in every set last year is considered special.
