WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) - Graduates of the University of Manitoba are ahead of their time, and they've got the degrees to prove it.
The Canadian university issued about 800 degrees last week that proclaimed students graduated next year, not in June 2005, an official said on Tuesday.
Staff and students at the University of Manitoba noticed before the graduation ceremony that the degrees, embossed with the university's official seal and signatures of top officials, stated the year was "two thousand and six", said John Danakas, director of public affairs.
"We're mailing everybody who was graduating a letter apologizing for the mistake," he said of the typographical error.
"We're doing everything we can to correct it for the graduates with ... as little inconvenience to the graduates as possible."
The university is exchanging the faulty certificates for corrected ones on campus or by mail. |
