I have been buying records for a bit and want to go out and buy turntables. What do you recommend? Where can I buy it?
1. I have no talent. I'm a mathematician not a musician.
2. I don't really plan on becoming a DJ but wouldn't mind being able to mix.
3. I would like something cheap so that I can enjoy vinyl without having to regret spending too much money.
4. Preferably some place in the city where I could go check out some sets, see how they work, and maybe learn how to actually work the damn things.
Thanks.

| it would make more sense to ask this in the DJ foums, but to answer your question...try Guitar center. They usually let you try everything out in the store. |

I study math and physics, and am also a musician....... Sooo mentioning your a mathmetician should have no relavance to your musical ability and if you read anything about music you would know it has strong ties with math....
To learn to dj takes all of like 30min..... |

Hey Sidharth (fellow Desi  ) if you have access to turntables at a friends house or something, I suggest you go mess around on them for a few hours to see if you are certain about getting turntables. THen I recommend looking around for a pair of Technic 1200s. They are the standard and are recommended time and time again. I know it will be tempting to get some other wanna be turntable from Numark or gemini, but trust me, if you go that route, you will almost certainly end up upgrading to technics anyway. Try guitar center, that's where I got mine. They are fair with pricing and you can finance if u ahve to. I have a pair of 1200s which are a few years old and would consider selling them because I havent spun for months now and have no time. PM me if interested.
Oh yeah, and to the person that said it takes 30 mins to learn how to DJ...thats just a blatent lie.
I spent about 2-3 months just getting beatmatching, phasematching, and track programming down. and then 6-8 months after that perfecting my technic. it took 30 mins to 2 hours almost every day for two months to make real progress! |

i think frost means... it takes 30 minutes at most to learn the concept of mixing.
of course it takes a lil while longer to perfect that, to program your tracks, and learn different mixing techniques... |

They also sell turntables at a high price. I think I saw Technics there for $480. |
