ortofon needle systems - not suited for mixing trance???

im about to buy some new needle systems for my decks, those (beautiful) ortofon concorde ... but there are so many types of them. some people say some of those arent suitable for mixing trance, and only can be used for sratching (im not sure, but this is what ive red somewhere). the spherical needle wasnt suited mixing trance, i read somewhere on the internet. is this true?
if im about to buy some systems + needle, then which type/needle can i use for mixing trance, and which definately not?
please help me which system and which i can use for mixing trance ..

thnx in advance...

can you use a ferrari for going to the shops for a pint of milk?
of course you can.

they work fine with any music- best I have personally used.period.

Make sure you get spherical, not eliptical stylii

Why not the elliptical styli? I've used these for over a year, haven't had any issues w/ them, and they sound great.

Spherical are better suited to queuing/scratching and they wear less on your records. Elliptical stylii have slightly better sound quality though!

Another thing is it seems like spherical needles are more popular. This is important because you should always play your records with the same shape needle. So sticking with spherical just makes sense.

where'd you get that? I always thought eliptical wear less than spherical...

I've been using Concorde Nightclub E for 8 years now...

Exactly. If you think about it, a sphere would force the grooves out further, therefore resulting in more record wear.

Oops my bad, i was thinking of "drag".

Spherical needles

Pros:

They are cheaper to make.
They are the more popular choice of needle (see point 1).
They have a lower drag, due to smaller contact area, and this makes them better for scratching.

Cons:

Higher record wear, because of lower contact area (the smaller the area, the more pressure).
Less of a high frequency response, also due to lower contact area.
Elliptical needles

Pros:

Larger contact area, therefore less pressure, therefore less record wear.
Better high frequency response, due to higher contact area.

Cons:

More expensive to make
Not as popular as spherical needles, you're not likely to find them in a club setting (see point 1).
Higher drag because of higher contact area. Not a good choice for scratching.

Ill have used the Ortofon Concorde S (spherical) with the yellow tip for some time and i recommend those to mixing with trance do not use the E (eleptical) type as it wears more on your records. they are very light and easy to grab and good looking too. Im currently using the Shure Whitelabes and those are heavier and a bit clumpsier but the sound quality is better than the concordes.
