Ok so me and this other local were opening for a few more experienced DJ's in this fairly sized party. The first DJ has 2 more years of experience under his belt and he is the one always getting me gig's. But he has a nasty problem cutting normally 20 mins into my sets all the time so I normally spin for 40 mins. Should I confront him about it in a respectful matter or should I just keep my mouth shut as he is the one getting me gigs.
What would you guys do? |

| I would ask him why he is cutting into my timeslots. |

| I wouldn't shove a vinyl up his arse, but I would hardly go whimpsy on him either. |

Simple, ask him to book you an 80 minute slot. 80-20=60 minutes, problem solved.
In all seriousness, just go with what PutBoy said. |

| I would say something to him but not be too much of a dick about it. Maybe something along the lines of "How do you feel about letting me play for a full hour?" If he ends up being an ass about it, 'em. Be a dick. But you never know, that might solve the problem with out causing a big blow out. If you're getting booked to play an hour, you should be able to play an hour. |

| yeah, ask about it but i wouldn't get too bitchy about it, being that he gets you the gigs in the first place. then again 40 minutes is really short. |

well, I wouldnt do anything to ruin your chance of gettin' gigs.
Maybe just remind him once or twice, that your on in X minutes. |

wow that sounds like a problem. it sounds like it's an ego thing to be honest, as we dj's have been known to have. whenever i play i ALWAYS cut my set a couple minutes short just to show respect to the next dj.
i think there' s a lot of dj's who need to be taught some etiquette when it comes to spinning...
PET PEEVE #1 - when dj's cut the power to your record before they start. at least fade out or mix in... DO SOMETHING!! lol. |
