Hey guys, i know a few of you wear glasses here and i'm beyond due for an eye doctor appointment, the vision in my left eye is getting really ty and i need new glasses.
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to what place might be cheapest for and eye exam and a new pair of prescription glasses since i'm not really sure how things work here when it comes to that (and how much they cost!).
Can anyone help me? :( |

If you're a student try looking for places that have student specials that include frames (up to a certain amount).
I would advise NOT buying your frames from your eye doctor though even though he/she will inevitably tell you that they're cheaper because he/she can't mark them up and blah blah blah. Take the prescription to a retail outlet (Lenscrafters, Hakim Optical etc) as you can usually end up walking out of a place like that with 2 sets of frames for the same price you would pay for one at your doctor's office. |

| Eye exam to my knowledge costs 60$ wherver u go....As for a new pair of glasses, the cost varies depending on the frame of your choice and the type/power of lense....I had both done for 300$ not too long ago....if you work then your employer should reimburse some of this expense , otherwise if ur a student then look for a shop offering student discounts.....one piece of advice, stay away from big names like Hakim etc.... |

| As far as i know OHIP covers an eye exam for students every (2 years?) i believe. As for frames, i got a wicked deal at Hakim on Bloor and Royal York. |

Oh hehe i don't get cover for that stuff here. I don't have my student visa yet and even when i do get it i don't think i'll have anything like OHIP tbh, probably my own insurance in .be covering that...
But thanks for your (and everyone's) advice (yes, even you Cale :p), i'll keep it in mind :D |

Even if you had OHIP, it no longer covers eye exams for people aged 20-64.
You need private insurance, like Blue Cross, to cover it...or cash.
Yay Canadian-style socialized medicine!! :gsmile: |
