The producer promotion board ;)

Private FTPs I guess. Also you can buy promos for a monthly fee and get a CD per month or something but it costs heck and most of what you get sucks.
LiamPaddock
FTP's???? What sort of amount of money are we talking about here?
Can you buy them off the record labels?

thanks in advance
Liam

FTP is the illegal alternative.

I'm not sure how promos work really, but you can get them from a lot of places. Don't know any of them however, but I know it's not too cheap. I would guess maybe, minimum, 20-40 dollars a month, or something.

Can't be to anymore help though

from what i've heard there are things called record pools and basically for a subscription fee you get mailed tons of music a month or something... some of it is gold, some just crap...

on the flipside, some record labels allow you to buy promo packages... like for X amount of pounds you get 10 upcoming promos.... try www.dareyproducts.co.uk and i think the other i saw was city16 maybe or deepblue (solar stone's label)?

ps. it ain't cheap.

anjunabeats also does this with their promos, but they are def. expensive.

promos are a way that a record company gets new tracks promoted (hence the name). a record company is going to send out promos to established djs that are either huge or play out on a continuous basis (ie 2 or 3 times a week). promos are limited, so they aren't going to spend their time sending them to bedroom djs that just can't wait for them to be released.

from what i've read and heard, a lot of promos are serious crap and are worthless. for every good tune, you have to sort thru like 20 ones. imo, don't waste your time looking for ways to get promos. it comes in time after you've become a pretty good dj. just work on your skills and forget the promo talk.

(and if you really want them from anjunabeats and dareyproducts and the like, you're gonna pay like $15 and up for a promo...is it really worth it?)

I think i will skip the idea, i just get annoyed when it seems all i am mixing is out of date music.
Thanks for the help guys

hmm.. Try playing Mozart or Beethoven or sumthing, I've heard their music is immortal :S

J00F does a reasonably priced promo service, and the music is always solid. Just depends whether you like the sound of that label or not.

Promos are available on the major record stores upto one month prior to release. However, I shop on Chemical where most of the promos are from UK labels i.e Anjuna,Discover,Monster etc. Promos cost you a min. of 5.95 quid(Discover,JOOF etc.) and a max. of 6.81 quid(Anjuna,Monster,ATCR,NDN,Bulletproof etc.)

Alternatively, certain labels have a direct promo service where you pay in advance and get promos on a monthly basis. These are mostly CD though.

You want vinyl promos or CD promos?

Alternatively, there is the illegal way(DC hubs/MIRC).
LiamPaddock
Im not worried about CD or vinyl i just want the latest releases to spin.

thanks
Liam
