monitor brightness

For some reason my monitor, Samsung SyncMaster 753DF, is EXTREMELY bright- to the point of being unbearable to look at. I think it started a while ago after I closed a program. I havent fiddle around with any of the settings and the brightness level is at 0. I also tried pressing the 'Recall' and 'Degauss' button, whatever it is they do, without any luck. I emailed Samsung but they are of no help.

How do I revert the level back to default? My eyes cant take much more, its like im staring at the sun!! Help!

Have you tried installing the latest videocard and monitor drivers?
nss

You seem pretty knowlegdeable, so I'm guessing it's not the refresh rate either???
nss
Thanks for your replies Disney.:) Aye, ive tried the different settings for the refresh rate but still no luck. The best I can do is reduce the gamma, but then it turns 'foggy'

Thanks for your reply. I have something similar to that but not with those settings. Even with the Desktop Brightness at 0, it is still very bright. I think there may be something physically wrong inside the monitor.

Explain every which way you've tried to fix this. Including uninstalling the card, drivers, etc.

Thats really hard to say.

I turned the brightness up because I couldnt see the graphics during a program, and after closing the program I turned it back to 0. I think this is when it got stuck to this level. Then I tried pressing the 'Recall' and 'Degauss' button. 'Recall' is supposed to revert all settings done to the 753DF back to default, but it does nothing.

Ive updated, installed, and reinstalled both video(Radeon 9000) and monitor cards. Both driver details say that they are working properly at all times. Ive lowered and raised the refresh rate on my monitor to see if it does anything as well. Ive also tried doing System Restore a couple of times.

I have Windows XP SP2

Here is a picture of what my screen looks like on default without lowering the Desktop Brightness in the Advanced settings. Im not sure if it will capture the brightness well

This is the only computer I have. Ive tried the different settings when starting up my computer, including safe mode, so yes.

As a matter of fact it happened when I closed Diablo2:conf:
The game gamma is at its lowest level, 50.

Thanks for your help. I might as well just take it to a shop and have it looked at. My monitors problems is just getting plain tiresome
