isn't the whole reason the yankees are building a new stadium because the mets are getting an olympic stadium??? |
I remember hearing talk about the new Yankee Stadium a few weeks ago, so it's been in the works |

I wish the Mets would get a new stadium
Whatever happened to their proposal plan? It seemed like it fizzed out, seemed like a good concept too |
Vic, oh what you've been missing out on... :)
News about the new Shea (or whatever it will be called) Stadium was announced a few days ago - it was recently approved and is scheduled to open in 2009.
If NYC gets the Olympics in 2012 (or more likely 2016), then it would be used as the main stadium for that.
I'm sure this was the backup plan all along, but it got life after the proposed West Side stadium for the Jets was voted down.
So Yankees and Mets are getting new stadiums, Nets will have a new arena after they move to Brooklyn, Giants are also building a new one (still in NJ). I wonder how the Jets are feeling about all this. After not getting the West Side stadium, you'd think they would have a better alternative to going back to sharing with the Giants. |

Thanks Dan!
I hope The Mets get it this time, they need it. hopefully it will have a roof similar to the sky dome, one that opens and closes. the planes that fly in and out of LGA are annoying at times |

another alternative is to let the city rezone the land and try to sidestep the 3 man board in Albany. They can easliy get the $300 million from private investors. |

i just thought that it would prove to be semi-ridiculous to have a west side stadium in such an already busy and heavily populated manhattan. i mean traffic is already pretty bad, i don't think we need a sports arena in the city to help improve traffic? i think it was better off even though it'd bring more jobs and more money into the city it would have proven detrimental to mobility within the city. And not for nothing, taking the train during rush hours on the west side suck already, trust me i do it every morning and every afternoon on the express trains and its still jammed crowded..
ok fine, not at 7:30am but still you feel me though |

some people actually do that. but the point here is that the extra foot traffic will create problems for cars trying to get through the west side. you ever see river avenue after yankees games? how traffic is closed off? yeah, i envision the same thing if there was a stadium on the west side... |

if Cablevision gets that land...that's EXACTLY what will happen (for basketball, not baseketball :stongue: )
i really don't see a point in having a new MSG...the current arena is fine as it is at the moment |
