I just got 1.1 gigawatts of electricity thru my house on Tuesday night!!:wtf:
I took a direct lightning hit to my house during an incredible thunderstorm we just had... blown up everywhere, garage door opener, circuit breakers, lights, TV, stereo, fridge, GFI's and YES....the computer (writing this at work)
Part of the house now has some "zebra stripes" from the scorching effects:wtf: :eyespop:
Did I upset anyone with supernatural powers, or a witch, or vodoo high priest, or The Almighty...I'm a little concerned :nervous: |

are you sure it wasn't 1.21 jiggawatts?
Shoulda used your flux capacitor. you wouldn't have had to pay the electrical bill for a year |

| Sorry... I didn't have my voltmeter handy, too busy seeing if my house was still on fire, but you are correct. |

Ah sick. My place got hit by lightning a few years ago. 2 computers, a printer, 3 phones and a poor toaster got smoked...oh as well as any lightbulb that was on at the time...
On the WTF meter, I'd give that anywhere between a "SNAP!" and a "Jesus H. Christ in a chicken basket!!!!" |

:stongue: hahaha! I guess this is why you are supposed to unplug all major (and I guess minor) appliances, etc, during a lightning storm. Who actually does that though?? |

The storm hit so fast I didn't have any time to unplug anything...
High winds took all my porch and patio furniture and tossed it in the pool, recovered my hammock in my neighbors yard...over 100ft away!
My wife was on the computer at the time, trying to shut down, and she got some voltage through the mouse, leaving her arm with a strange "tingle feeling" (when I heard her shout, I ran downstairs and expected to find a pair of smoking shoes...she was very lucky!)
I think I may look into a "lightning suppression system"
THIS WHOLE SITUATION SUCKS!!!! |

Actually they were unplugged. It started through the phone line. All the phones were done, the phoneline was connected to the 2 computers so that in turn smoked the printer as well, and why some lightbulbs blew out...well I am no scientist on the effects of lightning. So it was just a freak accident, but thank God for insurance! We got new computers
But I agree, we used only unplugged some stuff here and there but now we do ALL the time. A warning to the rest of you.......you want a new comp, leave it plugged in :haha: :haha: :haha: |

awwww poor you! UGH i hate when storms ruin things. My house is located out of town and is surrounded by a huge forest, so we always have to be careful. Trees get struck by lightning all the time. A year ago, a gigantic pine tree right beside our house got hit and it fell onto the roof and really damaged a lot of stuff! Also, the computer got messed up (which i blame myself for, because I didn't have it on a surge protector thingy), and our television got totally fried! :whip: right now as i look outside, I see there are a lot of trees that fell down because of some bad storms this year.
