Review: Johan Gielen @ Avalon NYC

Hey all TOTA here who happened to be in NYC for Johan Gielen. He was awsome the only prob was that you guys arent as into the moving your bodies as we TOTA's are. The set ruled, the girls were gorgeous, the venue was ok. Sound system and lights system could have been MUCH better but I guess I am spoiled by the toronto clubs like the guvernment and republik. All in all a great set except it was too short! only 3 1/2 hours and 30 bucks U.S.
Ah well different experiences everywhere! |

Wow!!! What a night! I had a feeling it would be awesome especially knowing that I'm bringing a person who Johan wouls be very excited to see - D! Those guys had so much fun together and it influenced the whole set.
Johan was vivid, fast and very melodic. Last time at Websterhall he didn't play that many vocal tracks as this time and all of them were fresh and addictive. I loved his new tracks a lot (he was giving me signs when he was putting his tracks in a player).
I love you Johan. You are DA MAN. It was nice seeing you taking care of your friends and being so great with everybody (as always).
And one more thing - It was the very first time when I was in a DJ booth where there was nobody who didn't dance. When i stepped out to take some pix from the outside - DJ booth looked like a crazy dance floor - Felix, D, Johan, Victor, Big Mike and others were jumping and having a really good time. There were no people staying along the walls with boring expressions on the faces or barely dressed girls.
Pity some of you missed a great night:( But we had a lot of fun.
D and I left at 4 because we both were exhausted. But i still move like Johan would make me to move if he would played his music right now.

Excellent set by Johan, better than his last time in Dec IMO
Anne Savage was good as well, at least in the hour of her set that I caught.
Too bad there were 3 fights

Nice pix mike. I was planning on going to this but my brother ended up making me drive his ass back to NJ and i didn't get to go :whip: :whip:. Glad you guys had a good time.

hmmm.. alot of songs he played I don't know too well. The opening DJ played Abel Ramos - Aquarius (Randy Katana Aquadub Mix)/Fred Baker - Total Blackout. Wasn't expecting those from the headliner. Anyway, Here is just a few tracks Johan played:

oh WERDDDD?!!! damns i wish i could have made it then...i thought his set was AWESOME back in DEC...oh well i guess till the next time. i hope he comes back soon :( |
