Me too. Also, Simon Berry isn't a moron.

i guess it was trageted to mainstream audiences.

The Dream version...possibly so, since it added that piano melody absent in the original, and was not nearly as popular beforehand. Who knows what Robert's intentions were?

what makes it unique?
erm, i could be wrong but maybe its the short structure of it?
the verse/chorus/verse/chorus?

Were these things absent in music before Children? Absent in Trance music? No way. The piano melody in the Dream version? It's catchy and all, but no more than, again, the one in a track like "Piano In Trance". I think PIT was even released first. If not, they had to make the track pretty quickly before the end of the year since the Dream Version of Children was released in August '95. Doesn't really matter anyway. The reason Children became so popular was because of the piano melody. Piano melodies were being used in trance for years before Children.

The first dance track someone with power realized everyone could enjoy.

overrated and really not that good but has a special place in my heart as it was the song that got me into trance.
DC76
Got me into trance. :D I still like it, but there are tracks on Dreamland that are better.

Awesome song. Robert Miles got me into trance and I still think that song is one of the best ever! Come on people, this is an appreciation thread!

It's one of those tunes I'll remember and value for a long time, since there are many memories attached to it for me. Those memories mainly evolve around a week long of clubbing (and reaching various levels of drunkenness) in Rimini, Italy, on what should have been an educational school trip. Stupid teachers, sending a bunch of 16 year olds to Rimini and expect them to behave.

It was THE popular track in all the clubs there at that moment, and therefore it brings back memories of one of the best weeks I've ever had. Looking back on it now, I'm not impressed by the quality of the song, but the memories keep me from worrying about that too much.

I still very much enjoy Tilt's Courtyard Remix of Children.
DjSimonB
Another one who got into trance with that tune.

I like it. Don't find it amazing or anything but it's a nice tune.

That recent song, from a year or two ago, that had the Children melody and pop vocals, on the other hand... horrible :(
Aquascape
Definitely one of the trend setting classics around. Nice tune.

Yeah, it was called 'Do you know' or something. What a pile of steaming dog turd! The piano is the starring element of that track and putting a cheesy vocal track on top was just plain nasty!
xxxtasy
It is one of those few tracks that gets played on MTV.

Probably introduced a lot of new ppl into trance, or into dance.

always a great listen. i don't know if it "got me into trance" , but it let me down the road of more instrumental music, rather than regular pop/rock.

Robert Miles had some other decent tracks, but this was definitely the best one [and most recognized as well].

I think 2 Unlimited would have something to say about that.:gsmile:

Never really cared for this song (or it's clone, Fable). It wasn't from the plinky piano melody, though, but rather the waaay limp percussion used. Those were some of the worst bass kicks I'd heard in EDM up to that point. Most of the rest of Dreamland wasn't too bad, though.
