how to quit?

so i've had a job lifeguarding at the town pools for the past 4 summers, this being my 5th if i stay. to sum it up, i've been completely shafted in every way possible, from not getting a promotion i deserved, to getting probably the worst hours of any job i've ever seen, to having over half my weekly hours being something thats not even really in my job description.
tomorrow morning at 10 i have an inservice thats just making sure i can do my job right, probably off the clock. basically, i'm trying to figure out what the best way to quit would be, ideally not going to the ing inservice tomorrow, but idk. and i'd just leave and not show up ever, but this is one of two jobs i've really had, and by far my best reference as of now for future job applications, so i really can't just with them
what the hell do i do? |

dude... don't screw up a good ref by takin' off on that. smoke the inservice test, make a really good impression, then leave while you're in demand (just tell them you're going into something that doesn't allow for lifeguarding or whatever.) that way you get the ref, as well as the high regard of those employing you, and probably a backup job should you ever need one.
swallow the inconvenience of the inservice test and a little longer at that job this time, cause it will pay off in the long run. esp. if you haven't had too much experience. black-holes on a resume always raise suspicion. |

you could just go, good morning sir, i must inform you that i shall be executing my right to quit now. have a nice day.
or, if you want to lie thru your teeth, you can say something along the lines of your dad really needs help at his place of business and requires you to work with him from now on, and tell them you, because of this, are obligated to quit. etc etc and all this. |

lol thats the thing, i don't really need to make a good impression
i've honestly been one of the best employees they've had year after year, and have monthly evaluations to prove that. and right know, especially knowing the management this year, there's no way to get out without them being pissed at me, whether i deserve it or not. and that doesn't really matter, its what they say that counts. |

i should also add, the problem with showing up tomorrow is that the manager at my pool is both one of the nicest sweetest people, and one of the bigest bitches in the world (bi-polar, and it shows :()
so if i told her i was quitting, she prooobably give me the whole 'no chris, you can't do this do us, we need you' shpiel that i've seen her give before, and i wish i didn't have such a hard time saying no to people, cause i know when it comes time without thinking about it i'd start making up excuses or just end up trying to stay my ground and overcompensating and looking like an
and if she's a bitch, well, it wouldn't be that bad. however, my sister works at the exact same place and i know the manager holds grudges and i don't want her to take it out on my sister |

maybe, dude, but seriously, don't burn bridges. if they're gonna be pissed, let them be pissed cause they lost a good employee, not because they fired a good employee.
quiting is defensible. getting fired generally isn't unless there's a human rights tribunal involved...

Dont burn your bridges, you may need to use them in the future as a ref. Tell them that unfortunately in this time of your life they are not offering enough for you so you are moving on to pursue bigger opportunities with more room for advancement and salary. They cant hate on you for trying to go out there and actually improve your life. The point is EVERYONE is trying to get ahead and thats is being honest and they should understand. |

| oh yea, proper way is to give at least 2 weeks notice. If you dont they may be slightly pissed cuz they havent have enough time to find a replacement for you. If they are pissed about that you have to tell them you got a really good opportunity spur of the moment and you cant turn it down. If they dont understand oh well. |
