Racism on television.......

| Man, how come when I watch my USA tv, I always see really direct racism towards Asians? I mean I see more subtle racist stuff on tv towards other groups, but towards Asians it's more direct, the characters actually say racist things towards them, for example slurs, small dicks, dog eating etc.! Someone please explain why this is ok, give me your thoughts, do you like it or hate it. |

Comeon Asians??
They rarly get discriminated on tv. Its only the hispanics and blacks. I watched a history channel special once. They said good things of asians such as they coming in here and most of them becoming doctors and engineers. All the asians i know are addicted to video-games and drag racing. If anything asians are tought of highly on tv. |

Asian men are often discriminated on TV. They are portrayed as incompetent agitated sidekicks whose main purpose is to function as comic relief. The same goes for magazine and billboard ads.
On topic: I think it's ok, as long as the tv company is privately owned. It's the same kind of "ok" that I feel towards Fox News: When you own the place you should be allowed to broadcast any kind of crap that you want. If the audience disapprove they are free to watch another channel.
If we are talking about state owned media, then they should of course be free of propaganda of any kind. |

when i watch telly back home in hong kong, i see racial spoofs on americans, blacks, japanese, korean, mainlanders, you name it, there's a racial spoof for everyone and everything... it's not exactly the truth but you cannot say it's far from the truth... and besides, it's television programming and it's all crappy like that everywhere these days... |
