RIAA bites chicken butt!!!!

I was listening to some gripe about the copyright crap going on in Sweden earlier and I got on this RIAA bashing rant...... I have to say though, I found it very humerous when they tried to sue a DEAD woman a few months ago!

She was like....90 when she passed away and the RIAA accused her of sharing files even after she was dead! Her family explained to the court that their mother (and grandmother) had never even owned a computer, let alone SHARED MUSIC!

Their newest target is a 14 year old girl in England. The thing that truly SUCKS these days is that we have all this creativity you know? You've gotso many incredible producers , singers and musicians out there and they are all just running to the devil (the industry) to throw all of their hardwork & talent away to the money god! The almighty dollar has enslaved the creativity of so many well known artists. Granted, some have made it through the hail of gunfire without so much as a scratch (Madonna for instance) but the way the big dog record companies are writing contracts these days....well, it's either they own you or you own you. There's no middle ground!

I think that the musicians and singers and bands all need to start taking a stand against the thugs of the industry and not only get a little more for themselves but give a little back to their fans as well. It's a well know fact that these artists are making mere pennies for each CD sold and their lively hood is actually in performing concerts, using songs that they don't even own anymore! When will the RIAA decided to start charging the artists "dues" to be perform the music they slaved and labored to write & produce?

Musicians, singers, bands......TAKE BACK THE MUSIC!!!!! When I'm paying $17.99 for a new CD (sometimes more) it would be nice to know that I'm not FUNDING the RIAA's low down, dirty dealing, money grubing SMACK DOWN of the public. They're nothing but a bunch of money bags looking to bust the chops of the little guys.

What we'd need is somesort of huge alliance of independant producers coming together to provide pressing, publishing and marketing, and forming their own system seperate from the RIAA. I'm thinking something in the same genre as the old mp3.com's CD system, but on a larger scale, and where they could be sold in stores rather than just over the internet.

i think some artists would actually be billionaires rather than millionaires if it weren't for the money-hungry RIAA. I call it theft

while i agree that the RIAA are greedy s.o.b.'s, i think that the higher cost of cd's is due to the supply chain that is currently in place. in the chain, the cost of the cd is increased every place that it stops. so if the record company sells the cds to a wholesaler, who then sells it to a distributor, and they sell it to best buy and it needs to be shipped to a warehouse, then to the stores, you can see how many times that the cost of the cd needs to increase in order for that particular person in the chain to make profit. so say a $1 is added to the chain everytime it stops at a new destination with an original price of $5, it's up to $7 or $8 once best buy gets it, and then they need to increase the price for them to make money.

i understand that you want to rant about the RIAA suing people about downloading, but i'd just be glad that it wasn't you being sued. a couple kids at my university got nailed for that and they were threatening fines of $100,000 for any song that they didn't have any legal copy of. they're making examples out of these people and trying to scare potential and current downloaders. i stopped downloading because i'd rather pay $18 for a cd than risk getting sued for $1.8 million (18 songs times $100,000 a piece)

You know what the latest sickening act of these greedy hypocrites is? They now support P2P!!! after they labeled it as evil! .. why? well obviously they found a way to benefit from it financially.

As noted on /.

quote:

"The AP reports: 'In the last few months, major record labels have signed licensing deals with companies working to field file-swapping services that would block unauthorized files from being traded online.' Most interesting is a service called Peer Impact (http://www.peerimpact.com/), which 'can be used to find and purchase tracks from an initial catalog of a half-million songs from all the major labels.... After a user buys a song from Peer Impact, future buyers get it from that member -- or others who have gotten it in the meantime -- instead of from a central server. Users have to pay for each track they download, but sharing songs they've purchased from Peer Impact earns them credits they can spend on the service.'"

f offf!
