Wanna Help Support Music?

Ok, so i've been throwing this idea around for quite some time now and for some reason i had an urge to sit down and investigate this a lil more.

When I first created iDC, I just wanted to get a bunch of cool ppl together to support the music scene in DC's nightlife. But I think its time to step it up even further and support music at a much more important level. A level where we would have a positive lasting impact on.

We can whine and complain that the "scene" is dying and music is no longer what it used to be. How many "producers" do you know that sit at their computer making "music" but have no real musical background? So I've been thinking that what if we stopped our bitching and support music education to those that do not have the financial means to, particularly the youth. Many of us say "music is my life, music is everything, I dunno what i'd do without music" blah blah blah. If music is THAT important to you like it is to me, then I strongly believe that we should strive to keep music alive by raising money for CHIME to support music funding for our youth, (particularly DC youth). Supporting isnt strictly limited to donations, we can help mentor and teach kids as well.

So who is seriously interested? Im definately gonna do this once I figure out how and get more details. I will post this on other boards in the near future to rally up more manpower/womanpower and support.

Here are some astounding facts I pulled from their site: http://www.chime-dc.org

==========

Many DC public schoolchildren have little or no access
to it either during or outside of school:

* In recent years music education has been removed from the core curriculum and treated as a "frill" in DC and many other school districts. It has fallen victim to budget cuts and the current priority on raising test scores.

* Many DC public schools have no music teacher. In others, some children may rarely or never see the one music teacher. Only a handful of elementary schools have instrumental music instruction. High school bands and orchestras, traditional sources of school pride, are having trouble finding trained players.

* Shortage of instruments in good repair is another bottleneck to music education in DC schools.

* School music education is necessary but not sufficient for those children with a serious interest for whom supplementary private instruction is needed to fully develop their potential. Many DC public school children have no access (geographically or financially) to such instruction.

The majority of the music schools here in NY are very poor.... I myself attend the abrams art school for piano.... Which itself is going broke...
