FFS, put a waldorf of some sort up there... PLEASE!!!!
Microwave or Q would be my recommendation. The Waldorf sound is unique, more so than some other VA synths :D
Great post BTW:toothless |

| add the novation bass station, the best thing about it, is that the model name rhymes with the manufacturer name. and it suggests that bass is derived from the synth...:haha: :haha: :D :) :haha: :haha: :tongue2 :tongue2 |

I have a waldorf micro Q maybe I can write a "review" like the ones in the first post if you guys want
It would be cool if people would review their own synths and post in here (unless it has already been covered I guess) |

this is probably a stupid question but are these the different aspects of equipment needed for anybody going all out on hardware? I ask this because I don't want to purchase something I don't need or forget purchasing what's required. |

When you say "all out on hardware", are you planning on ditching your computer/DAW and doing all of your sequencing and recording using hardware? |

| If it's not preposterous, then yes I plan to ditch the computer/DAW aspect with all due respect. |

I lived in an all-hardware realm until about 7-8 years ago and there a lot of times I've considered going back, so no, it's not preposterous IMO.
Anyway, here's more or less a minimum of what you'll need:
- synth(s)
- drum machine(s)
- sequencer (unless you plan on playing and recording everything in real-time)
- mixer
- effects (e.g., EQs, compressors, reverbs, delay or multi-FX)
- multi-track recorder
- monitors (audio)
- headphones (for tracking)
If you plan on recording vocals or other live instruments (e.g., recording a guitar amp), then you'll obviously need a microphone(s) and possibly preamp (although the mixer or multi-track recorder will probably have sufficient mic pres).
Also, many multi-track recorders have built-in effects and decent preamps, so that may negate the need for a mixer and outboard effects units.
Finally, there are some good workstation-style synths (e.g., Motif, Phantom, Kurz PC-series) that have built-in sequencers/arrangers and drums, so that could replace having a stand-alone sequencer and drum machine, and would also serve as a main controller (e.g., for rack hardware synths). Other options include something like an Akai MPC or E-mu Command Station.
So, really, there are a LOT of options in the h/w realm, but hopefully this list can point you in the right direction. |
