Hi, i've been dj-ing a little bit now, 6 months all together. I still havn't yet mastered beatmatching, but getting there, very close. I have my decks in my bedroom, and the computer as well, which is handy. I want to hook up the decks or whatever you hook up to the computer to record a live mix, then save it as an mp3 file. I want to do this to listen to my mixing to see if it sounds good etc. What software would i need for this and what extra cables? Cheers, Thanks, Chris.

As the other lad said, this is what you need :

If your mixer has phonos and your PC card has a 3.5mm headphone line input.

or

From the mixer phono to a PC card with phono inputs, either way Richersounds.com have them and they are pretty good for the money (tenner a pop).

You can get better but with the signal path from the vinyl, through styli/cart, mixer preamp, channel fader, cross fader, EQ to the PC it probably doesnt matter that much.

I've just upgraded my bedroom setup with an M-Audio 2496 pro quality sound card just to record from the mixer and do some production work. Card was only £69 from SoundControl and the cables about 20 from Richer.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for not searching mate. Sorry, but i don't really understand. My mixer has phono sockets, but they are used for the decks?? I'm using a crappy dm950 numark mixer.

What do you mean "yes it will"?

Can i buy any wire or does it have to be a specific one accorind to your pc?

All i want to no is the names of the cables i need, and what goes where. Cheers.

I've located the line input on the computer, what i don't understand is the procedure for the mixer. At the minute i have the amplifier connected to the mixer, which is in the output left and right. Both of my decks connected to the mixer using the phono red and white sockets (channel 1 and channel 2). The only sockets i have left are the line red and white sockets (channel 1 and channel 2). Do i leave my decks in the phono? Does my amp come into this? I don't know what you mean by connecting the mixer to to the line on the computer. Wouldn't i need a cable with 4 end (2 red and 2 white) to fill the line sockets and on the other end a plug to plug into the line on the computer? Please help me out here.

Just to re-cap, i have 4 sockets left in my mixer, line red and white sockets (channel 1 and channel 2).

And the line socket on the computer.

What cable would i need? and where do i plug what or move anything.

dude, if your amp has a NON-amplified output, you go from the amp to the PC. if it does not, you'll have to hook up the mixer to the PC, no amp. thyis will suck, since you need to monitor, so i don't know.

When recording do you use your own speakers or the computer speakers?

I've been reading http://www.djforums.com/tutorials/recording.php. It tells me what cables i need. If you look down to where it says recording to a pc, in my situation would it be ok if i bought those cables? Would it work correctly??
