Is hardstyle actually popular in Toronto compared to Hard Dance?

cosmic gate was just hear not too long ago and dumonde have been here last oct, then in jan i think and now next month.

id say its all good

yeah but that goes with the trends. Marco V is also in the group of Cosmic gate and DuMonde, he's been playing this city for years, and has a fanbase here. I'm not saying hard trance is completely dead, but it's definately not growing.

Look at the headliner DJs who play toronto, most times we'll get the same groups of them to play here 2-5 times a year, as they've built up a fanbase and like to play our city. Whereas newer DJs are more hesitant to play here because they don't have the fanbase.
EX: Hernan Cattaneo, would fit into playing in toronto very well, but we never get him booked because he doesn't have the connection to toronto that say deep dish , or paul oakenfold have.
EX2: Sander Kleinenberg. Took him forever to start playing toronto, and I remember his first couple of gigs where he'd already made a name for himself internationally, but still didn't have a ton of support here.

The bulk of the club going population isn't as well schooled as we are on what DJ plays what and how well they do it, and thus the crowd takes a longer time to warm up to their sound. Couple that with the fact that the rave scene and hard dance scenes are not huge in toronto anymore, and you have a reson as to why yoji doesn't come.

Because hard dance was actually popular when we had a rave scene. Dumonde and Cosmic Gate were playing toronto back then, just like how we get house DJs like Sneak, Farina, DJ Dan, and Bad Boy Bill because of industry.

But back in the day, I had no idea who Yoji was, couple that with our rave scene collapsing, and it took our hard dance scene with it, taking us off the map for newer hard dance DJs like Yoji.

But Dumonde and Cosmic Gate still show up though. Dumonde was here last year, this year once already, and they are coming again July 17th.

Also, let's take Sam Punk ... he was here last year, and now will be here again for WEMF.

Or how about Kai Tracid that showed up this past February?

At WEMF, we also have Buzz Fuzz coming in from Holland.

Add to that, last year's WEMF line-up had BOTH Lab 4 and DJ Scot Project.

Surely if there is demand for Scotty P or Lab 4, then there must be demand for Yoji.

The rave scene in Toronto isn't exactly "dead" ... it's just really small.

Plus, I have been noticing more and more hardstyle acts showing up in T.O., as well as more local hardstyle DJ's popping up.

Yoji drops everything from techno, to hard trance, to hardstyle, so you'd think he would attract a wide variety of fans.

I just don't buy it ... that Toronto doesn't have enough fans or support. I mean at the very least Yoji could have come to WEMF.

you're listing all the older DJs who've been around here for years.

And as for Yoji playing techno, he might but techno isn't huge in toront either. In fact I'm really surprised the guv has got together the techno lineup it has go gg2.

I'm not sure about the other DJ's, but I do know that it was Tracid's first time in Toronto when he came in February.

I just hope I see Yoji come to Toronto soon ... even if not too many people know him, or are fans of him, he will make believers out of them :D .

Yoji made a name for himself in Holland by playing at Dance Valley ... he then played for the first time at Sensation Black last year, and many Dutch people heard him for the first time ... and the dutch really loved him, which is why he got booked this year for a whole slew of Dutch gigs.

Yoji took a "leap of faith" when playing at Sensation, so I don't see how Toronto would be that much different if he played at something big like WEMF.

plus there hasnt been a techno act in guv since............Mauro Picotto (hehehe) in March, with carola!

OMG ... I CANNOT believe this.

The legend himself, Yoji is coming to Canada ... but not Toronto! :whip:

I don't get it ... of all places, he's gonna be in Calgary and Vancouver, but not Toronto !?!?

Even more surprising ... one of my friends somehow got in contact with Yoji's agent ... and the guy actually lives in Toronto! Apparently he's this Persian guy ... and he told my friend that Yoji doesn't come to Toronto becuase of a lack of fans.

Even Yoji himself knows that the West is the Best ;) :D

... and what has happened to Nightmare Productions??? Sorry, I've been away for a while and thought that these would be the guys to bring him! I mean, they were "the source" for all hard trance/dance DJ's.

Nightmare ... I believe they're still around ... they're the ones that brought Sam Punk and the Uberdruck Boys to Toronto back in October :disbelief :eyespop:

They really should bring Yoji ... speaking of which, July 8th, day before Sensation Black, there is a mystery gig on Yoji's site ... neither venue nor country listed ... maybe it's Toronto?

what is that toronto agents email? phone number? if all of us TOTA's email him/call him incessantly (and using diff names and emails lol) im sure he would bring in yoji we just gotta show him there IS a fanbase here in toronto -- maybe he wont fill the guv his first time out here but if he goes to maybe viva or something at first we can slowly lure him downtown with bigger crowds lol
i just received a reply from the email address i found on yoji's website, [email protected] , to enquire about bookings worldwide it reads (and below the response is my original email):

Hi There,

We do have several offers from clubs and promoters in Toronto, but the
best thing would be to send this request along with other fans to your
local club which usually hosts internationals such as Guv, etc..

We thank you very much for your enthusiasm

Cyrus
