Well this turned out to be a very interesting set. We start off in a dramatic mood with "Baileys", which directly goes into the classic "Desert Rose". Normally I don't enjoy "Techno Remixes" of pop songs, but the duet of Sting and Cheb Mami is really nice against the backdrop of drums and the like. Moving on we get the rather chill combination of "Liquid State" and "Echoing Waves", the latter of which has an interesting breaky breakdown, foreshadowing the next track.

The Hybrid mix of "Never Gonna Come Back Down" has always been a favorite on mine, for several reasons. First of all, the break beat is a nice think to introduce into the middle of a normally trancy set. Next, it has the crazy ass vocals of the song, another plus. Lastly, the piano. Reminiscent of Rob Dougan's "Clubbed to Death" if you ask me. Once the effect has worn off, I reintroduce the beat, and bring in "Yellow Man". Never thought I'd ever mix something with a harmonica, but hey, there's the first for everything, right?

The second half of the set settles down a bit more, going into a more mainstream progressive trance feel. The Markus Schulz remix of "Whirlpool" has almost a darker balearic feel to it, pushing the simple guitar hook into the forefront, while successfully avoiding masking it with synths and pads. This is matched nicely with the original vocals from "No One On Earth". Things heat up a bit with "Sacred Cycles" (I prefer the Quivver Mix myself, but this isn't a bad effort, and it was nice to hear this classic brought back to the forefront) and then we hit "Preen" for the last climax of the set.

I then tie up the loose ends with "Kallocain" (really nice remix by Robert Nickson there, I need to look up the vocals sometime though...) and then "Random Experience". I love the hook on that track, very playful and curious. Subtle, refined, and a great way to end the set.

Please feel free to comment on these sets, I'm doing this as a learning experience, so all feedback is welcome!
