The Forum says "General discussion area... talk about what's on your mind", so I'm going to!
I went out with friends for my 21st last night to the local 'club' (Oceana(Link) for those of you in England/UK that know it), and thought it might be OK. I'm a student, but seeming as though it wasn't a student night I assumed they wouldn't be catering for the pop and 'r'nb masses. So I went along before 8pm in order to get in for free, but was sent back home because my shoes were too 'casual'. I was very annoyed, but thought it was fair enough as it was a non-student night after all. So I got back within 10 minutes and got in.
We sat downstairs for a while having many drinks, having a magician confuse the hell out of us and listening to some guy playing some fairly decent house and mixing extremely well. I was quite pleased at this, until I went over to him and asked if he had any Max Graham. He "hadn't heard of him", so I told him to go and get some! Nevertheless, he could mix and was playing some fairly decent stuff!
Then we proceeded pass the 'cheese room' (never a good name) and into the Venetian ballroom which is basically a huge room with several levels, a bar, amazing lighting system and a DJ booth located over-looking the lot.
However, it was r'n'b all bloody night! :whip: :whip: :whip:
I was furious!! I hate this genre. I have been to that place every day of a week now and it plays the same motonous drivel week in week out. Because I am skint, I couldn't afford to go up to London or anything else!!
Finally I was drunk enough to request some PvD, and the guy raised his eyebrows as if to say "you mean you want to hear something else?"
The crap music continued to blare out, so I left, complete with tinitus and went and indulged in a Subway sandwich.
I just HATE r'n'b. What is it with my country and it's obsession with it? Is trance the national obsession in Holland or US etc, or is just very few places in the UK play trance anymore?
What was the clubbing scene like 5 years ago around the world?
Point of thread? r'n'b needs to be banned.

meh i dont mind the rap
its good dancing music... SOMETIMES
they play rap and rnb at all the clubs over here in PA... at the eclipse its almost always rap and rnb at the dragonfly its usually good house and at the chameleon its indie music.
but at least here if they play rap its good to dance to like 50 cent or ciara :cool:
something to be said for the rap clubs around here though... the dance accompanying them is grinding so w/e
if ur lonely its easy to rub ur denim dick on ppl and take a chick home ;) |

| wait-- i think you mean, hip-hop not rnb. rnb is just way too damn slow, you kinda have to slow dance to it--- but with hiphop type stuff, that's mostly what they play in clubs. |
