I would hardly consider indymedia.org to be a bastion of unbiased political information, jonsun, so I'm not sure how much merit can be placed in a story like this. At the very least, it would be pretty bloody difficult to keep 9,000 American civilian deaths quiet from the American people.
However, this line rings true imho:
| quote: | | You ought to realize that President Bush personally ordered that no pictures be taken of the coffined and flag-draped dead under any circumstances. He claims that this is to comfort the bereaved relatives but is designed to keep the huge number of arriving bodies secret. |
This isn't because the number of dead is being under-publicised, it's because it's a lot less confronting for the American public to read in the daily papers, as an aside to the incedible amount of democratic progress being made in the country at the moment (need I include the  emoticon?), that an "American soldier" was killed in this endeavour than to actually see pictures of the poor fucker's coffin being returned home. If the war is worth what Bush says it is, then these flag draped coffins should be on the front page of every newspaper, not snuck quietly into the back-entrance of the country while nobody's alllowed to pay attention.
And yes, I'm quite drunk. |

| Censor is a form of propaganda, and in my opinion is no better than a straight lie. |

| If they were lying about numbers why even make it 1600 or whatever it is at now as that is a pretty high number, why not just make it 200 or 500 or a smaller number... |

I'd say that the death toll probably is understated, but I wouldnt say 9,000 soldiers have died. The logistics of covering that figure would be fairly troublesome..
What I would be interested in is the number of injured US soldiers coming out of Iraq.. Including soldiers with permanent or serious injuries (ie. amputees n ), plus soldiers coming home with shellshock, and even those soldiers who come home and end up suicides because of their experiences...
They're all victims of war, but are ALWAYS forgotten... |

| Unfortunately we have no control over this situation. We can post all day if we had to about how much of an a**hole George bush is but at the end of the day thats all we can do. We can only pray and hope for the safe arrival of those brave soldiers out there risking their lives. |

Instead of people saying the numbers could be false why don't they just follow these three easy steps:
| quote: | WHAT YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW:
1. If you know (or know of) service members who've died in Bush's wars, look for their names on the full, alphabetized "official" Pentagon death list, at www.tbrnews.org/Archives/list.htm. IF THEIR NAMES ARE NOT INCLUDED, PLEASE SEND A REPORT TO: tbrnews (at) hotmail.com. You're also encouraged to notify your Congress members, your local newspaper, and other interested parties.
( Note that the alphabetized list is updated regularly at tbrnews.org. It currently includes deaths reported up through early June. )
2. FORWARD THIS WEB PAGE TO ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO MAY KNOW SERVICE MEMBERS WHO'VE DIED.
3. Forward this web page to veterans' groups, other organizations, responsible journalists and respectable elected officials. |
If people can do this, then will the numbers be more realistic. |
