Tipping in the club (pg. 2)

| I almost always drink beer when I'm out and I usually tip $1-$2 per drink. If I'm buying two drinks maybe I'll tip $5. Clubs rip people off with drink prices....I couldn't even fathom giving a bartender an extra $5 on top of paying 11-12 bucks for a drink. |

at a club:
$1 per drink ($0 if the bartender is a jackass, $2 if the bartender is really nice)
$1 for the bathroom guy
$1 for the coat check per item checked
at a restaurant:
15% standard if the waitstaff is averagp
16-25% if the wait staff really goes out of their way to serve you (give a good description of what is on the menu, always fills your cup of water without you having to ask them, etc.)
10% if they forget to get you something
pennies-5% if the wait staff is rude, not polite
cab drivers:
15% standard
more if I get into a good conversation with the taxi driver
more if the taxi driver goes through red lights and speeds for you :D |

for me it depends on on a couple things:
a. If its a regular bartender i go to.
b. If its a random bartender
c. If I open a tab
d. If I get separate drinks.
e. Depends how much effort is required to serve the drink.
I have a particular bartender at FUR that I go to everytime and tip her nicely. She always calls me by my name (before I hand her my credit card;)), tries to get to me as soon as possible, always hooks me up with lower prices and never tries to pull a fast one on me by loading my cup full of ice.
On an average night, if my tab was $60, I would normally tip her around $20-$30 depending how my funds are doing.
With a bartender I dont know with decent service, i tip $2-3 for mixed drink and ALWAYS $1 for beer since all is required is popping the cap off. I dont tip for water because the price of water is usually jacked and all they gotta do is yank one from the cooler. But yea, if you want faster service next time, tip nicely. |

$1-$2/drink if theyre cool but if theyre an in anyway i give em nothing. if theres one thing i cant stand its giving a guy $1 to open a twist top who's got an attitude to boot :whip:
|
Oh man you said it best... why, why is it that a huge portion of people that work in NYC clubs have the worst attitudes... I'm a in customer I expect to be treated that way.
I give 'em a dollar period, most of the time those s try to over charge you for drinks anyways. Last time Johan was Avalon I drank Goose & Cranberry all night.. aaaaall night lol and it was $10 a drink. The drunker you get they start tellin you 12... 13... that .
I understand they work on tips, and if I have a good bartender, I'll usually hit em off with a few extra bux when I'm done drinking, I'm not gonna tip them big in the beginning so they'll be nice to me, if they're nice I'll hit 'em off with extra at the end. You gotta figure, if everyone tips a dollar, these guys/gals are serving a few hundred drinks a night... they do well for themselves. |

Now I don't want to be an , but have you been living in a cave in some mountain in Kurdistan for the last 8 years?
Your next thread should be called " How do I get on an elevator?" |

no seriously, bartenders make like $2/hr and tips is how we make a living. just like in a restaurant the standard is NOT a dollar, its at least 15%. i cant complain though... where i work, gratuity is included, so even when people try to be cheap and not tip at all, they really are tipping me 17% :D |
Ok, youre comparing a restaurant to a bar. At a bar, its $1 a drink and that is the standard. But when I sit down to eat (alone), the way I tip it usually comes out to about 25-30%... with a group its like 20%. |
