Why are there so many people using [ and ] for a remix, instead of ( and )

It looks stupid and i think there is some unwritten rule that say:
'(...) is for a remix and [...] for the label' :o

Yeah, I agree that's the most sensible way to use them.

I concur.

A more interesting question, however, is the use of "Mix" vs. "Remix". Are there any rules on this one?
My hypothesis is that a remix with a name (ex. "Album", "Extended", "Twisted On The Terrace" ect.) is more appropriate to follow up with "Mix". If the remix doesn't have a name, it's just a "Remix".

Am I right?

I dont bother included what label its on, seems kinda pointless.

I use [] at the end of my own mixes to stipulate the month and year it was done in :D

a mix is usually done by the artist. a remix is usually done by someoneelse.

but im lost without discogs :(

I dont bother with all this mix/remix/re-edit bollocks

I just stick the artists name in, and only bother with the extended stuff if necessary, like with the various G&D remixes of Jewel - Intuition

ie:

xyz - abc (123)
xyz - abc (123 Dub/Vocal)
