I didn't like the idea of Figo when we still had Gerrard, but with him on I think there's definitely room in our squad for a player of his class, even though he's aging.
Would ing LOVE to see Ballack come our way. |

Over the past year I've changed my opinion on Gerrard a lot. Living in Liverpool most of the year and seeing a lot of their games, I've been shocked by how average he is at times.
He's also shown himself to be a right tosser lately. He has won the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, the FA Cup and the Carling Cup, yet he thinks he's too good for his hometown club.
He wasn't even one of Liverpool's best players last season, he wasn't even their best midfielder. He was inconsistent and lived off media hype.
I didn't rate Alonso at first even though Liverpool fans raved over him, but having watched him more since I have to say he is better than Gerrard. I remember when they played Chelsea and Alonso was dominating the play with his passing, spreading the ball around the midfield. Gerrard did nothing and lost the ball a lot with his heavy first touch. Alonso and Gerrard don't seem to work too well together, so keep Alonso and sell Gerrard for a fortune! Gerrard got the credit in the Champions League final but he was being completely outclassed by Milan's midfield until Hammann came on to sort it out.
Technically-speaking Gerrard isn't that gifted a player. Notice how Liverpool have moved him further up their midfield so he can forget the technical side of his game and focus on his gung ho style. That's why he got more goals last season. But against the top sides he fails to run the midfield, he doesn't have the technical ability or the intelligence. Against Milan he was outpassed and outclassed for almost two hours solid. Have you ever seen Gerrard dominate Keane or Vieira? He never comes out on top.
Gerrard can look amazing on Match of the Day when they show you a few clips of his 'hollywood passes' but what they don't show are all the times he lost control of the ball or whacked it into row Z trying to go for the hollywood pass. Alonso hardly ever loses the ball.
If he goes to Chelsea you will see that Lampard is twice the player Gerrard is, without the ego. This could be a fantastic move for Liverpool. |

If Liverpool do sell Gerrard I think Rafa will go out and get Ballack, Aimar and Defoe. Or At least 2 of that list. Ballack is definitly on the block and would be a star in the Prem.
Whats worse if he gets sold. This or Owen??? I would say this.
Also if he goes to Chelsea that would be a smack the in the face, most of these english players dont insult the fans by trading to another english club(becks, owen) so I think he will go to Spain and not do a Vieri. |

I think he'll go to Chelsea to be honest. Liverpool would rather sell him to a club abroad but Chelsea have the most money and Liverpool won't turn that down.
I think he's had his eyes on Chelsea for the past 12 months.
It seems to be either them or Real Madrid. |

He's the one whose damages his own rep, not anybody else
here's my thoughts on it...
Deep down I think he should just go now to be honest, and here's why>
-Over the last 12 months, and even more, he's bullied this club something ruthless, he's made all sorts of demands that he has NO PLACE to make, on our managers and chairman. He believes hi own hype and thinks he's bigger than the club, there's no question about that.
-He is BLATANTLY not 100% comitted to the club, yet we still keep him as our CAPTAIN?? WTF?!?! CARRA has 100% commitment, he has never contemplated leaving, and he said himself "WHO IS BIGGER THAN LIVERPOOL?"- he should be captain
-the £40m we could get for him, would allow us to buy some QUALITY players, maybe even a centre mid who doesnt do so many "hollywood" passes, and give the ball away at times.
-BOTTOM LINE - he's ed everybody around for over 12 months, if he wants to go he should just go, we wont accept half arsed performances. He HAS to prove himself to everybody all over again now. I hope he does his talking on the pitch this year, and not off it |

I think it's bad news for Liverpool that he's staying. He doesn't work very well with Alonso and you won't get the 30M or whatever which could easily replace Gerrard with a true world class midfielder like Ballack with money let over to spare. Also this is the second summer in a row where Gerrard has been tempted away before changing his mind.
If I was Liverpool I'd still tell 'the ego' to sling his hook and end this media circus.
Give the captaincy to Carragher, he's a much better role model, he's more consistent and he's more vocal on the pitch as well.
As a rival for 4th spot (or wannabe-rivals at the moment!) I'm glad he's staying at Liverpool. I think the top 3 can breathe a sigh of relief as well because you could have done some serious damage in the transfer market with that kind of money. |
