As you all know the Live 8 concert was just this past weekend and there have been debate on whether or not it had any impact however there is a great campaign called the whiteband campaign it a whiteband the says make poverty history its 2 bucks each min order of 5 ($10) im planning to order some so if anyone is interested i can put ur order in mine or u can fill out the form yourselves. Any action is better than no action. Let the apathy die .

Funny how we always get involved when it comes to other countries but most of us here dont even bother to vote. And when corruption does happen here nobody cares...

sorry but charity begins at home.

The truth is i think that nobody really cares about what's going on there either...it's all talk...(no disrespect to you feems i'm sure that you do it for the most noble reasons)...now that live 8 is over, in a week or two everyone will forget about it and return to their daily lives of not caring...(excluding some individuals)...

^ I agree.

Also, this whole need to advertise that you're donating to a charity is pretty lame imo. Just donate and do your part, why do you have to let everyone else know by wearing something?

until we solve our own poverty issues ie) homeless etc i dont think sending billions to corrupt governments is the answer.

I hate to sound inhumane but the solution to the problems in Africa is simple..... let them die. The whole problem is that there are too many people and not enough resources. If we would just let the sick and starving die then there would be more resources for the remaining who might then have a chance to build their infastructures and make life better for the coming generations. It sounds awful but it is the only real workable solution. As Nietzsche said "let all that if falling also be pushed" (thus spoke zarathuatra part IV). Sometimes you have to thin the heard.

This would be the way of nature.

Indeed, however, humans for some reason think that all human live is too valuable to let it go without a fight so we circumvent nature by prolonging human life when it really should have naturally expired. Despite the amount of money we put into Africa this problem will persist until the amount of people is sufficiently low that the land can support them. The more we try to save the sick and starving the longer and more pronounced they will suffer without significant improvement. To throw out another Nitzsche quote "of all these 'virtues' the most evil is hope. Hope only serves to prolong suffering."

so than what? will there be a day that everyone magically stops dieing and the disease and sickness disapears? your "only workable solution" has actually been taking place for years now...and let me ask you this...has it made the situation in africa better or worse? because without increasing our aid and intervention disease will just spread to a greater part of their population, people will go hungry, and most importantly, the need for fresh drinking water will increase ten fold.

I guess some people need acknowledgement and recognition that they are charitable people?
