People with ADD

I got this idea from reading the thread about tourettes. I was thinking, I know alot of people with ADD, including my boss who has it bad. He is sorta like the flash. he will come and question you on something, and as your explaining, the next thing you know, you look up and hes gone@! He gets an email, and can only read about 2 sentences from it, and then he'll call you in the office, and ask you what you wrote instead of just reading it, WTF!?

yea i'm actually really fascinated by this whole ADD epidemic...it's like everyone and their mom has it...but i dunno if people are just being misdiagnosed because of the strong influence that the pharmaceutical companies have over doctors.

i definitely had it as a young teenager, but i have grown out of most of it. it's actually a very ty thing to have. and plus, when i was in middle school and high school, it wasn't as popular back then, so my parents didn't really think to have me checked out for it even though i had all the symptoms...I'M the one who finally said something about it my senior year because this girl in my class took ritalin and had ADD, and one day we got into this whole discussion about it, and she was telling me all the symptoms and i was just like, "oh my god, i totally have it".

i even had symptoms as early as 1 1/2...i had horrible, horrible temper tantrums...not just "terrible twos" bull. i mean if my mom dared tell me "no" to something i wanted, i would thrash around and kick and scream at the top of my lungs right in the middle of the store and start knocking stuff off the shelves. she'd take me out in the parking lot and throw me in the car and let me have it out until i calmed down. i'd kick the windows and fog them up and just go nuts. lol i couldn't even talk yet...

but like i said, i've grown out of most of it...i mean i still throw tantrums like that when i don't get my way though....hahah jk:p

no, but i listen/pay attention more easily to things that don't interest me and i can read and grasp what i'm reading now...i still have some impulsive issues (spending money, which is a sign of it too i think) and i procrastinate, but who doesn't these days...

i work extremely well under pressure with deadlines n such and i can multitask like a mofo still...typical ADD:)

i think ADD is a load of personally. i can't deny that they're are certain people that genuinely have a problem, but i think there is WAAAAAAY too much overdiagnosage. i personally don't have ADD, but i have a lot of information and experience with it in my family...

Truth. Some people, I think, are just lazy and they blame something else on the fact that they dont want to concentrate on something. So here, take a pill and supress feelings. Thats rediculous and I dont agree with it. Eventually we will have something in the future far beyond "ADD" though just because of all the medication people are apparently taking for it. You cant win with society.

ADD can also be easily confused with just being overworked, stressed or even clinically depressed...so yea ur right a lot of people seem to jump on the ADD bandwaggon.

but seriously...i went through a whole series of testing in high school with a shrink who specialized in ADD with young adults, and i guess i tested positive or whatever.

plus, looking back, oh my god... i was so ing obnoxious and loud and hyper when i was like 5-12...then in middle school-high school it became more like the opposite..day dreaming a lot, constantly losing things like keys or whatever due to being extremely unorganized (still like that) and i would read a paragraph like 4 times and not know what i just read because i was thinking of other things...could never do my homework in silence...had to have the TV or radio on...stuff like that is very typical ADD, i did tons of reading about it.

Oh yea, and I tried Ritalin a few times, but it made me lose too much weight and I would get really cranky and emotional when it would wear off, so I just stopped taking it and dealt with it…I always had a hard time accepting the fact that I needed a pill to make me work properly. I think my dad has it too…he’s a total space cadet and very forgetful…I forget if it’s hereditary or not.

yea but u know what...she's probably right...everyone is really f'd up in one way or another if you ask me...including me:p

human behavior and mental illnesses are both really interesting topics i think...if i had stayed in community college and kept going towards a general AA degree, i probably would have transfered to FAU and continued studying psychology or sociology...but then i got into the whole advertising/art kick:) more money and more fun...plus getting a Bachelors in psychology is dumb, u gotta go all the way and get ur Ph.D if u want to do something other than become a school counselor...not that there's anything wrong with being that, but it's just not my cup of tea...i'd probably end up killing a kid. hahah
