Okey, so I've tried to come up with som e kewl ing melodies. And yeah, it has been a trial-and-error issue (mostly error). And I have started to give up. Now, I need tips on how to create melodies. How do YOU do it? Plucking around? Humming and copying your humming to MIDI?
It also seems like I create melodies the best when I'm not trying. And also, and this is strange, when I look back at a track, I never seem to be able to remember how I created all those melodies, basslines, and what-not. Anyways... *Hits Post-button* |

are you one of these who thought learning a sequencer like the back of you hand makes you a producer?
if not then my apologies, first off music theory, learn what notes work well together, how to harmonise & what chords work in the style of music you're trying to produce
when you're competant at that level then jus jam at a keyboard, its the best way to come up with melodies |

| Acctually you hit me pretty close. Well I know a sequencer alone doesn't make you a musician. A producer though... |

more a sound engineer, but seriously my advice is learn music theory, there are tonnes of resources around the net with lessons etc :)

I jus wish more people took this route rather than learn the sequencer side first then i think we might have some more intelligent music :p

| Get your midi keyboard, have your left hand around the bottom end for the bass notes, and your right hand further up the keyboard. Then tap a key with your left, tap a key with your right. Fiddle with this for several minutes until you find a combination that is slightly different to the hundreds already used. Add a few token backing arps, maybe some big pads, blah blah blah sorted. |

when I wanna create melodies I usually wait for the right mood if you know what I'm talking about...this creative mood, usually comes after listening to some good film scores (LOTR, Pearl Harbor, Gladiator etc).
then I load my strings soundfont and start playing a chord, whatever pops in my mind...after the first chord I draw the rest of the notes in my FL again whatever I want with no particular order.....blah bla bla and taddadam! a melody has been created! :eyespop:
here's one I've created in like 2 minutes..like I wrote, I've drawn a first chord and continued from there...;)

trance leads can be simple or complex heres what i do.
i start with a low bass note then high note and i fiddle around with it a bit adding more notes and there you have it.
