| I guess it's just fun to blow up. And it feels legitimate to say it's for Africa when you get arrested for beating up the horse of a mounted unit with a spatula and a baseball bat. |

G8 protesters is generally quite dumb.
For starters what is the purpose of protesting against the World Trade Organisation? It is simply a body for rectifying global trade issues, it is not the source of evil.
I hate when people dislike globalisation and get angry at rich countries. What do they expect, the rich countries are just going to give all their money to the poorer nations? What would this achieve really? What would happen would that the poor nations would waste the money through lack of education and the rich nations would struggle through giving all their money away, thereby losing the ability to contribute to foreign aid in the future.
If anything globalisation helps poorer nations because it gives them the opportunity to enter markets they would not be able to normally. And as much as anyone wants to complain that some guy might get only $5 a week for picking tea leaves in Africa if he wasn't picking tea leaves he wouldn't have a job at all and would be $5 a week worse off.
Globalisation is one of the most wonderful things to ever happen to the human race. I can buy German beer for the price of a local, Australians can sell kangaroos on the boots of David Beckham and it beats the reality that a global socialist system would lead to everyone on the earth being equally broke. |
