Them friggin' Brits don't back down from a fight. They're in it with us in Iraq. They did the Faulklands as well on their own, with some pitiful results, but by God they did it on their own. We forgive and forget; they are fighters in the War on Terrorism.

:D

I feel that I should point out that while we over here in the US are quick to give ourselves credit for "saving" Europe twice we rarely mention that were it not for the British grit and resolve to fight oppression both of the world wars would have been over before we got off our collectiva American asses. Personally my hat is off to the Britich people for never being afraid to do what is nessesary to defend their ideals and way off life.

As an American, Thank you

Great stuff as long as the Brits understand we whipped their asses about 230 years ago as well, and that they don't want to go there again and haven't.

Brits and Britain rule.

What personal connections do I have?

Well, for starters, Canada started as a colony of Britain.

My great-great-great-great-grandfather was the Earl of Mansfield (on my paternal grandma's side). My dad's third cousin (who's my age) is one of the UK's best female archers (Naomi Folkard).

I love Wimbledon. I LOVE FOOTBALL :D and the fact that there are many Canadians playing league footy over there (not the least of which is my favourite player, Paul Stalteri ;)). Some good ice-hockey players have been born there over the years, too: Owen Nolan (Belfast), Steve Thomas (Stockport), and Steve Smith (Glasgow) are probably the best examples.

And to say that England has a huge influence on mainstream music would be an understatement. Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Prodigy, Oasis (even though I think the Gallagher bros are jerks), Blur, the Stones, Ozzy, Oakie, Sasha, Digweed, the list goes way on, in both directions, back as far as the composer Purcell, who's a (Middle?) Baroque name required study, up with the likes of Vivaldi. Gilbert and Sullivan are t3h r0xx0r, too. :D

One of England's past queens (Victoria) gave my province's capital city (and the city where I go to school) its name. Plus we give props to Britain in the name of our province, too - BRITISH Columbia. :D

I have some pretty good friends over there, too... good enough to send me a version of Total Club Manager, which can't be bought outside of Europe (offline, and my uptight mother won't let me shop online :p) or master charity CDs for me.

My great-grandmother was born in Walsall.

BRITCOMS! :haha: I've never seen a British comedy that I didn't find at least slightly funny... unlike some NA comedy, which kinda fizzles. Red Dwarf, Father Ted, even some more "old codger" stuff like Are You Being Served and Keeping Up Appearances. British humour rox.

Coronation Street. It's been on the CBC longer than I've been alive. That must say something!

And hey, Wycliffe! :D I'm going to work for them once I finish school.

I could go on further, but these things all point to one thing - how much England means to me, and that's a LOT.

Props.
