Is this supposed to be news? BT, Hybrid, Squarepusher, Autechre, etc. have been doing the glitches and "bleeps" for more than 5 years. Robophobia is a nice track of course, but the creativity hardly lives up to the standards set by classics like Fibonacci Sequence.
Besides, you're comparing apples and oranges here. DDTT is a "mood" - it's not even one specific genre, it just refers to music that's primarily driven by rhythmic elements, sprinkled here and there with some darker sounds whose main purpose is to help drive the rhythm and not distract from it.
"Bleeps" and "glitches" as you call them are just editing techniques invented (or at least perfected) by the producers I mentioned earlier. They can be used in any track, irrespective of genre and they do not actually create or contribute to a mood.
Don't get me wrong, I love that when it's done well, but I don't really see it as being in "competition" with DDTT. There's nothing to stop some producer from creating a tribal track with bleeps, glitches, and stutters - and in fact I believe that Grayarea has done so several times.
So to summarize, I am not saying "glitches < bongos" or "bleeps < DDTT", I am saying "glitches != bongos" and "bleeps != DDTT". There's nothing to compare here. |

Despite the fact that yes bleeps and dance music have been around for many years (thanks for the education Aaron), you can't deny the recent trends in minimalistic coming back to the forefront.
p.s Hybrid and BT are hardly leading the path, check out Richie Hawtin or perhaps le Tiefswarz. |
