VST Synths as Effect

I noticed some vst synths also have an extra dll like in pro-53.dll has an extra dll something like pro53fx.dll or something... There are some others too. Why is this? If i load these 'fx' into my sequencer i just see the synth interface...

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS?

Hey. This is very simple :). The FX version, rather than synthesizing its own sounds, it will take in sounds, like other FX do, and allows you to use the filters, envelopes, LFOs and other built in effects and features in the synth. Some v-synths such as the Korg MS-20 have some of the best and highest quality virtual filters achievable. Quite useful when you really feel comfortable with using them ;).

Theres a trick to using these. Some will work straight away just like a VST effect, but with others you need to trigger the envelope to actually get the filters and envelopes to work. Basically just the same way you would with a synth... it has attack, delay, sustain and release for the filters.

I cant quite remember, but I think its a matter of creating a track in your host and patching it through to the VST you have in your FX chain.
