I'm thinking of taking some sort of Music Technology Course in the near future (september). In a college not far from me theres a course called:

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Music Technology

Anyone had any experience on this course, or been on a similar course?

I'm just try to find out what the best type of course is for me, wanting to learn about studio production and other general aspects of music technology.

I'd also like to hear what qualifications you have regarding music, just out of interest, and if you have time, what did it teach you?

Not quite the same, but I did a BTEC national diploma in Audio production and music technology several moons ago.

If its anything like mine was, you will love it. Midi, recording, computers, sequencing, live stuff- the whole shebang.

If its the same as mine in regards to it being the equivalent of 'A' levels, then most unis will accpet it for entry onto a degree course in music tech or similar, which again is what I did.

Go visit the college, get a prosepectus and have a look around- will be more info in the course guide.
And sign up v early- these courses tend to have small classes and numbers, and fill up very quickly. You may find its too late to get on one for this sept.

Yea i have done a national diploma in Computer Science. It was ok, but we learned alot of useless stuff. Made me realise that I wanted to do something different, and music seemed the perfect option to combine the 2 things i enjoy, it's just I want to start learning about the studio environment rather than just carry on producing on home PC.

I wouldn't of thought it was equivalent to an A-Level is it? The one I'm looking at is only part time, like 5 hours a week.

Project 7, were you looking to do full time course or part time ?

I'd love to do an apprenticeship and do one day a week at college, but I have a feeling that will be hard to find, that doesn't require too much travel each day. I'll have to find out though.

Oh btw Project I have found a specification .pdf that gives all the info on the course you want. I'll PM you.

Its like 3 A-Levels but higher, get a distinction and its similar to getting three A* alevels.
