Im actually eager to see how they've remade this classic. Gene Wilder was an amazing Wonka, but Depp could bring alot to the character. I've actually avoided seeing advertisments and previews for this moive and am quite anticipating it.

Johnny Depp looks and sounds annoying as hell in the previews.

It be hard to top Gene Wilder's performance in the original. Wish they would remake bad movies instead of classics that will unlikely be improved upon. Most remakes are just new actors and better special effects with a slight plot twist to give you a reason to watch it. Sure there are exceptions but most remakes are unnecessary and mediocre at best.

I pretty much agree with you, but I'm hoping that, on an outside chance, that this is a well done remake. Johnny Depp has played alot of bitch characters, but he had also has had darker roles in movies like Blow and Fear and Loathing. Tim Burton has a history of a crazy twisted view on reality, and while this reputation has been fading over the last few years, you've probably already seen the potential he has.

From what Ive seen of these main players, the potential for a top quality remake is here. The unfortunate part is that this is viewed as a children's movie, so some of the parts that could be severely twisted will have to be toned down. However, I'd like to see this movie redefine children's movies similar to the first Shrek; however, instead of nods to the adults "sophisticated" humor, I'd like to see nods towards the darker side of adulthood.

However, like I said, you're probably right. Wonka is probably some 2 dimensional action figure, Charlie is probably whatever kid they could sign that had experience in a major film, and the rest of the characters will probably be slaughtered by self-centered interpretations and poor acting. However, seeing that this film has what I would consider potential, Im avoiding the advertisements so I can watch it objectively as possible.

i was thinking the same thing, although the screen writing and direction were so good i would enjoy watching whatever he decides to do. They are in a similar positon as spiderman, they could use any villian they want, but with the way batman begins ended you know they're going to do the joker next.

i have low expectations so on the off chance i see it I'll be pleasantly surprised. i'm quite fond of the original hope they do a decent job with the remake.

This movie looks scary :nervous:

This movie will have the same problem as all other Tim Burton movies, the story telling will be piss poor and although the visuals will be stunning and Johnny of course will awe, this will be a shallow movie worthy of one and only one viewing. I hope I am proven wrong, however I would be shocked if this was the case.
