Has it ever taken you years to render certain tracks, even though your computer is extremely fast and powerful enough to play that track in real time? Example:A 32kb mp3 with 48kbs sound quality takes 30 seconds to export with sytrus . Without sytrus, It would be finished before I released the mouse button.
I used to actually wait for 30 mins for a 2 min song to finish exporting, even though I could play it perfectly in real time.
So then it clicked. I don't need to render anymore...
I just SAMPLE!!! If you have soundforge(you should, it's worth every penny), just open it and press the record button. Then open FL5. Then in Soundforge, start recording and play the track. When it's done, stop recording and save the file in any format you want! ;)
I can't believe I didn't put 2 and 2 together before. Remember this is assuming you computer is powerful to play the song in FL whie other programs are open, but the song takes faaaaar too long to render. I don't know what I'd do if my PC was slower. |

Hm, really strange that it takes so long for your PC to export the track..
When I was using my old PentiumIII 1000 MHz + 128 RAM I was able to export a 8 min track in about 5 mins. Now it's going really fast with my new AMD 2.8GHz |

2 min track 192kbps takes me about 1 min to export he amount of plugs i use doesnt really matter...although im using loads of plugs.
something must be wrong with your FL settings |

| Maybe a benchmark .flp would illustrate my point... |

| i have a track that probably just over 7 minutes and took me over 45 to export. i have no idea why it's so slow, but it does have 2 instances of sytrus running, which just inhales cpu. |

| typically my tracks last anywhere from 5 to 7 minutes, and with lots of effects it can take up to 15 minutes to render in 256kbps, but never more. |

i had the same problem a while back. unfortunatly, i dont remember what i did to fix it and i dont have immediate access to FL right now. im fairly sure that it had to do with changing some of the options in the rendering menu. mabye dont encode it with vbr? im not sure, but fiddle around a bit with the rendering menu...
sorry for the lack of info, but i hope that helps a bit |

Well, I must be doing something wrong indeed. My computer is very fast, and I can play these synth heavy songs without a sweat, but when it comes to rendering, It's like downloading a DVD with 56k.. :sadgreen:
I thought pretty much everyone had this problem, but I guess I'll have to fix this. |

The problems really started for me when I couldn't even play the track, meaning if I want any sort of preview I HAD to render it. It didn't take too long though.
But that was when I was still learning. I didn't ever export wavs so i could drop the all fx for that particular sound. When you consider how many fx you can lose doing this later on it becomes a real help if you're suffering from a lack of power in the hardware department. |

Here's another trick...
As you go through your song and edit the different bits (usually what, 16 measures or so?), open your playlist and hold down control and move the mouse over the timeline at the top.
It will draw red and select the area; now just export that one selected area to mp3, and you will save yourself the trouble of having to wait for the entire track to render as just the selected area you are working on will render.
Also, all Mixer FX and mixing/mastering last, except for a few parametric EQs. :D :toothless |
