About time Canadian ARMED Forces get off this pissy 'peacekeeper' image and go back to being a soldier.
It really pisses me off that what the general Canadian public's view of the Canadian military is; all bunch of peacekeepers and cadets and whatnot.
I make no qualms about what I train to do; my job description as an infantry soldier is to 'close in and destroy the enemy', not deliver food aid to communities. Yes, humanitarian missions are also important, but that is never the primary focus of what a soldier does.
The general Canadian Joe Public's wish that everyone gets along with nice words and gifts and whatnot does not work. As long as idiots like Al Qaeda and Taliban exist, they will do whatever to over the world. Words don't seem to have much effect on these clowns.
The events in past 4 yrs have shown that no one is safe. Canada somehow lucked out but our day will come when the terrorists hit our soil. Just ask anyone who lived during the FLQ crisis. |
