This is definitely one of the better remixes out there, and I've listened to a ton of them because I submitted an entry too. You came up with something very original and that's great. Instruments are good quality, kick's got some punch to it (no pun intended), and the breakdown is a perfect length, doesn't lose the momentum of the track.
My only complaint would be that I'm hearing what sounds like too much reverb on the bongos/congas, particularly prevalent at 1:25 and 6:00 when the melody isn't playing. That might be why someone said they were too "nervous". IMO it's not a big deal really, but when I get that "gray" effect I usually put an eq or lowpass filter on the reverb channel and start trailing it off around 1-4 kHz.
Overall though, very nicely done. Good luck with the competition! |

remix kind of reminds of Subtle - Maranjana (I guess because of the conga pattern)... i like the strings intro.. but I feel it needs work... try studying Bach's chorale method.. it really helped me with making good classical string breakdowns typical in Dutch trance tracks... because the harmonies you used are very plain. and the lead before the breakdown I think could be stronger.. maybe more distortion and more rhythm gating... like Armin - Serenity
the bassline is tooooooooooooo deep... roll off to about 70hz.. it doesn't need so many subharmonics
this track would be better without the vocals! maybe you should make a dub. The best marriage between the music and vocals as far as this track is concerned is the Whiteroom mix... with this mix the vocals and the music don't go. |

This is the first Closer Now remix I've listened to since the pack came out. This one is almost there man. As Gerry said, the bass is definitely TOO deep, which doesnt happen on this forum often. I like the strings, but I just couldn't get the groove between the strings and the vocals. With vocals that are so akwardly timed as these (the main reason I don't like this tune) you need to establish a solid groove. You definitely have some good sounds happening in here though, so props for that.
Strings are beautiful, but as Gerry also said, your harmonies are very simple, almost to the point of being empty. Add in some thirds at lower velocities to fill things out a bit. |

Careful dude, the rules of the contest do say that you're not allowed to host your remix on another site. I don't think it's strictly enforced, but there is a *chance* you could get disqualified for that.
Doesn't matter to me personally - just letting you know! |

| really nice remix enjoyed it alot one thing sub bass is so low its almost disapearing in parts i would change that. also it seem to be drenched in reverb in parts particularly congas at the outro. best of look with comp. ;) |
