I got this flyer in the mail for Verizon Fios...they say it is now available in my area. It utilizes fiber optics to deliver the net
The speeds/price combination seems really good compared to my current cable modem setup
15Mbps Downstream/ 2.0Mbps Upstream 44.95
5Mbps Downstream/ 2.0Mbps Upstream 34.95
I pay 45 bucks for a much slower connection w/ Road Runner
Does anyone have this service? If so How has it been? |

You're a lucky bastard. I pay $55 for 6000/768 (actually i get more like 8000/800) for Adelphia. Where are you at, OC somewhere? I believe they were rolling it out first in CA in Huntington Beach or something. I'm currently serviced by SBC so I'll never get it anyways.
I would love to have the 2 Mb upstream, but I wonder how they'll restrict server usage. I looked up Verizon's TOS and it's confused:
| quote: |
3.6 If you subscribe to Broadband Service:
E. You may not use the Broadband Service to host any type of server personal or commercial in nature.
|
and
| quote: |
ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
3. You may NOT use the Service as follows: (q) to use the Service to operate a server in a manner that interferes with the network or other users' use of the Service
|
So which one is it? A server is allowed or not? A decent upstream feels like such a waste when you can't run your own servers (and I'm not talking huge webservers here, just small things for personal or low bandwidth usage). On the other hand, a lot of times the providers turn a blind eye to servers as long as you don't stick out like a sore thumb.
If I were you I'd try it out. If it sucks, you can always go back to RR, since there's no contract involved. FIOS probably has a contract but usually you can get out of those before a certain timeframe. |

I dont think there is any hope for irvine getting this service. Seems like cox is trying to run everything here.
I did talk to a rep at speakeasy.net and he said using sbc's lines it would be possible to get 6.0/768 at a price of around a 100 a month:whip: |
