I'm lookin to possibly purchase some TT's. I have no plans to spin at clubs or do anything more than bedroom stuff and frat parties. What TT's would you guys recommend that are cheaper than Techs but still make the grade?
Thanks guys! |

NOT the Numark TTX's, I recently sold them and they were not very good turntables. One broke down after 6 months (shipped it back to get it fixed), the tonearms were flimsy and whole construction just seemed "cheap". I would say if your starting out look at the Stanton's, like the STR8-100s or the new T-80s, which both costs 249.99 or T-120, which costs 399.99. I would also look at "possibly" (and possibly because I have not had great luck with Numark) the Numark TT500, which costs $299.99 most places. Although I am not a fan of Numark, i've heard better reviews from users about them than the TTXs.
If you really want to save money, go the route I am going right now, get CDJs. Since you don't want to spend a huge amount and am not planning to do this professionally or at clubs, i'de say go for something like the Pioneer CDJ 200 or the Stanton C304 which both costs $399.99. Yeah they are a little more expensive than those vinyl turntables, but even if you get an inexpensive vinyl turntable like the ones I mentioned, you still have to buy vinyl records (unless you've been buying it for a long time) and buy cartridges and have to replace styluses once in a while and records cost a lot of money. Most records online or at record shops cost 6.99 to 10.99 (or even more for imports, plus shipping if you order online), so to me, downloading MP3s are a better bet. I spent over a thousand dollars these past two years on records, and I only have 140 of them. I could have had almost a thousand MP3s (and believe me I have huge hard drives) so CDJs, in my opinion, save you in the long run, esp if you are just doing this as a hobby. |

| Better yet if you really want Techs, go for the 1200 MK2s, which almost all DJs and clubs use. You could probably find some used ones on Ebay, however the condition of the ones you buy on there is a bit questionable in my opinion. There is no warranty from used either so you would have to pay a fee to get them fixed if they need it...but if you are willing to risk that then check that out. I bet you could find one for around $350. |

Yeah i had Techs for a few days last week lol..the MK5s, they were nice no doubt. Kind of miss them but I couldn't afford both as the CDJ 1000 MK2s cost about 1,100 each (I will try to get them down to 1,000 each cause the guys at Guitar Center can always give you a good deal). |

Yeah in all honesty it would just be best to get some 2nd hand techs off ebay... the only other decks i would reccomend over a tech would be a vestax pdx or stanton st.150 (proud owner here), but its not really solving a price issue considering they cost the same... I am also not very big on numark decks.... hence me not reccomending them.
But also nothing really bad about getting some cd decks... but in the end they still are cd decks and not a black wax spinner |

I got my set of 1200s for about $500 used. That is much cheaper than you will pay for inferior new decks.
A good thing about buying used decks is you will become adept at cleaning and servicing electronics |

| The only reason i can see anyone wanting turntables is for scratching (and others like me find it easier to mix with a turntable). Personally if i could buy equipment all over again i wouldve just purchased two cdj-100 (they are only 300 bucks) they don't have the most precise pitch (you can only adjust by .1%) but its still pretty easy to beat match with them plus they load super fast, absorb vibrations, and have a master tempo adn effects. I have two str8-80s adn i don't even maintain them at all. They have lasted me a year so far and beat matching is not a problem at all and they come with a key correction which works ok. SO if you really want turntables i would get the str8-80s and you can get 8% or 12% pitch adjustment on them (So if you ever get technics youll be used to the 8%). BTW if you look around you can get technics mk2 for $800 dollars new with free shipping. Which is only 300 bucks more than a pair of stantons. IF you economise/starve for two to three weeks youll be more than able to afford technics :D |

Well I think the CDJ-200 is a better player than the 100 was. It is better quality, has a better jog wheel (still too small but "a little" bit more similar to the platters on the big CDJs), and has 0.2% pitch adjust, and has CD Text, which is a plus so you can select tunes easier than having to write out everything or memorize what is on the cd (or worse pop it out just to look at what is on it)... |
