No right? How can anyone complain that no one shows up to these events at which world class DJs are performing, when there is so little promotion? It's not just the population of the city that's to blame. San Antonio is home to over a million people, you can't tell me that there isn't one person in a thousand who's interested in seeing a world class EDM DJ, for any given genre. The promotors aren't creating a stir, and that's evident by the fact that there are actually shows (Marco V) that even WE didn't hear about!!

Thats another major reason why promoters only bring in the big names because there is little to no effort required in promoting them cause they are already big names so they will have their following regardless.

WTF!!! Marco V......

it just goes to show you, for a stable EDM scene TX still has a long way to go.

How would you like them to promote? I don't go to any record stores in town and I never go to any clubs here unless there is EDM event beforehand. Also it's not like they could get radio time on any of the major stations. Maybe they could get some plugs on KSYM(90.1)...other then all that mentioned above I only hear about show by checking out messageboards and/or looking at my favorite artists' website and check to see where they are heading. It would be a lot easier to get people to come if the promoters made their events monthly instead of at various intervals. Sure you wouldn't know who is playing but you would know every 3rd thursday of the month such and such promotion company with bring a certain artist to a certain venue. It would be a lot easier to do word of mouth promotion as well. As of now I always invite people to see EDM events with me and they always ask when....and I always tell them I am not sure. Once a month would be great to have in San Antonio....but I doubt that would happen. Plus I think people are getting tired of seeing Oakenfold over and over here >.<

i would love to see above and beyond in texas, even more in san antonio. or maybe cosmic gate, dj dana, yoji biomehkehana (sp? :P), dj luna, way out west, PvD, AvB, or dj gizmo. can you tell i like the harder styles ;)
truthfully if we dont get in contact with clubs that want to have a good edm presence in s.a. and tell them who the public wants to see, then theyll never know the diff and keep booking oakey until no one wants to go to his shows anymore, cuz all they know is headliners. lates.

My reaction is the same as everyone else on this thread. Marco V came to Austin and I didn't even hear about it! WTF :wtf: !

The Sunday Memorial weekend Marco V show got zero promotion, at least in the Austin area.

To clarify: Marco V was in San Antonio Memorial Day weekend, & it got posted in this forum on the day of the show, around 6 pm.

If there'd been some promotion or advance notice, I (& I bet other people) would have come down from Austin.

The fact is that we know there is an audience to whom EDM shows can be promoted in Texas. In fact, there are a load of us. Now, the whole point of having someone promote an event is that they are supposed to use their brains, ie. do the research and find the best ways to spread the word and entice people to attend the event. It's going to be a different ball game here than from other parts of the world, different demographics, style of living and cultural norms, but it still comes down to getting the word out to the audience you want to capture. I've always thought the one major downfall of promoters in this area is that they fail to understand brand loyalty, which you can easily obtain from a customer base if you are good at what you do and you are consistant in how you do it. I don't know of a venue in these parts that caters mainly to EDM, which people have considered themselves as 'regulars' at for any extended period of time... do any of you?

That actually was Edgar V and not Marco.

It was a rather bad turnout and more promotion definitely would have helped.

Man, I really messed up that post, & even my clarification.

lesson: never post without research. I mean, what is TA w/o strict accuracy???
