| I went to them a couple years ago...I got 2 tickets at the same time...one for going 80 in a 40 and for running a red light onto the expressway...ahhh!! They did help me though...reduced my fee and such. It sucked b/c I ended up paying them just as much as if I paid the tickets, but it helped with insurance and the points. |

| A pal of mine went to Xcoppers for a speeding ticket in a "community safety zone" and a ticket for improper insurance slip...Well they got rid of the insurance ticket one BUT he was stuck with the speeding ticket....WHAT THE  ...The speeding ticket was THE more important one:whip:...Even though XCoppers will pay if they lose it was still a waste of time so my buddy still has 3 points off his driving record:confused: |

This stuff about you only pay if they lose is crap - a WIN is considered as anything - i.e. reduction in fine and/or overall charge.
If guilty, Points stay on your record for 2 years from date of TICKET
If guilty, Insurance keeps track of it for 3 years from the date of CONVICTION
With this first attendance (meeting w/prosecutor) stuff you can reduce it to no points (depending on severity) - however - if you already have something on your record that will soon be gone (and insurance renewal is coming up) - you can request a first attendance meeting - show up - and turn down what they offer you - and then request a trial - further delaying things. This only benefits you if you're waiting for some points/prior convictions to be eliminated from your driving record and/or insurance.
Read up on some of the material on FYST - it works - send registered mail a few weeks prior to your scheduled trial requesting full disclosure from the officer(s) so you can defend yourself - many times they don't provide you with this info - so you can request an adjournment on the court date - OR if the cop doesn't show up you can get it thrown out.
(Let's just say I'm not a stranger to all this). meh. |

Is this backlash against having to learn how to drive in toronto?
You become a little too aggressive now? ;)
I've never picked up a speeding ticket, but I came close last summer. Busted doing 140 in a 70 zone, just outside some nameless town on a 2-lane highway at 1am, was still a little buzzed off some reefer I smoked an hour before, but fortunately for me, my eyes were clear by that time. Also fortunate that the cop didn't catch me in the 80 zone 50 yards up the road....That's when I would max out the speed of my car.
Would have been 7 demerit points, a $450 ticket, and on a G2 liscence, that would have meant my car would have been impounded, searched, and then a whole crapload of empty hoegaarden bottles and my weed would have all been found and I would have never driven again. Good thing the cop was too lazy to wait for the tow truck at that time of the night or I would have been fluxed right up the @ss.
Learned my lesson that night. And Scumfrog played well...
But argue it in court with anything you've got. Most of the time the judge will take away the points. |

| ^^ yup, they can take your car if they clock you at 50+ over the posted speed limit |
