That's so far from the truth.

On the other website (i forgot to add this to the original message) people were claiming that no government agency would release this drug, such as the FDA. They wouldn't want a cure since the big pharmacutical companies would lose ALOT of money.

I'm sure the evil, fanatical, evangelical, Right-wing, racist, sexist, homophobic government will keep this off the market, because as we all know, lack of funding and anti-gay legislation spreads AIDS, not irresponsible behavior.

The FDA is only a regulator. It has no financial gain or loss when it approves drugs. Certainly the drug companies have influence, particularly when they want a drug listed.

What you are forgetting is - just how ing much money do you think a drug like this would be worth to a drug company? N BAJILLIONS. The companies would be more likely to be pushing for a listing and certainly the word in the industry is that Several leading drug makers, including Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, and Schering-Plough, are trying to get a CCR5 inhibitor (such as AK602) on the market.

I'm sure all the big pharm companies are making a push to get this on the market, as they're set to make, as you said, BAJILLIONS off this. I'm not arguing for some crazy conspiracy theory that anybody is trying to keep this unlisted and off the market.

I'm just saying that there might be some outside influence from particular sources to get this pushed through, even though the FDA isn't necessarily a 'for profit' organization. Greasing the wheels of policy in America all goes back to the almighty dollar.

Senators aren't involved. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure that every new drug listed doesn't have to go through congress)
