i heard about this. Have they said what they believe of him being related to the bombings yesterday? Man british cops are going to become like Los angelous cops. Shoot at the suspect first than ask questions.

The attitude of people that think "You've must have done something wrong or else you've wouldn't have gotten arrested" is a tired cliche from a mindset of the presumption of guilt before innocence.

'Man shot dead was not a bomber'

Reuters

LONDON: A man shot dead by police at a London Underground station on Friday was not one of the four bombers who tried to attack the city's transport system on Thursday, Sky Television reported citing security sources.

"This is what I am picking up from security sources that the man who was shot this (Friday) morning at Stockwell tube wasn't one of those four bombers that police are hunting," Sky reporter Martin Brunt said.

A spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police said only: "the gentleman shot at Stockwell today has yet to be identified, so it would be impossible to link him to anything at this stage."

Police shot the man a day after four attempted bomb attacks in London and 15 days after bombers killed more than 50 people in the British capital.

Police said the shooting was part of an operation directly linked to an "anti-terrorist" probe.

They said they were still looking for four men in connection with Thursday's attacks, which caused chaos but killed no one.

Sounds like a scene right out of a movie:

All the more reason people need to film stuff like that before it's filtered through the mass media. No one will ever know the truth until someone who was there and saw it all can bravely come forward and say something about why this man was killed.

I could just ing snap. I really have had it up to here with not only other people, but also Americans sayins "oh, that's so American". Give me a break. As though police brutality doesn't happen all over the world. Michael, it actually sounds very human. In the spur of the moment when emotions can sometimes overried instincts and common sense, awful things can happen. This man may be a terrorist, may not. This would not be the first time police, from anywhere in the world, made a mistake like this.

It does happen:

Looks like he was pretty involved to me...at least the police seemed to think so.

(as if police are just going to tackle somebody at random and shoot them... )

Looks like the british cops (which normally don't carry guns) are given the authority to use it:

While most police in Britain do not carry guns, officers with special licences can do so.

The standard policy saying officers should not use a gun except as a last resort was changed after the July 7 bombings, giving police the authority to shoot suspected suicide bombers first and ask questions later.

IIRC the bloke they shot had been under surveillance and they were chasing him (ie he was running away from them and headed to the tube) He did not have a bag but had one of those big winter jackets (its pretty hot here at the mo) I haven't heard yet if had anything on him but when all things considered, the police would have to assume that he did, hence him being shot

It did strike me as surprising tho as I was not even aware that plain clothes police were armed as the armed police are usually a special unit, and I wondered if it was the security service instead but they aren't allowed to carry guns either I think. I also found it odd they shot him five times when one to the head would have done the trick (esp as they have been ordered to aim for the head not the body incase they trigger a bomb, and I doubt they shot him in the head five times)

They were probably just nervous.

i dont see how it got classified as "american."
american cops do that over here and they will pay the price.
thats why i was surprised to read that the dude was shot as he was on the ground.
