I know for a fact that Psy DJ's started out mixing wit DAT tapes and many Pro's, specially from Israel still do.

Dont think any DJ's really used tapes to mix......you cant really control anything...unless yeah...I saw a pic posted in a forum yesterday....Innovative...dig it out. :p

Before CDs were so common on the DJ circuit, many psy/goa DJs preferred to mix with DATs. Easier to distribute, easier to bring along and doesn't melt in extreme temperatures like vinyl would. I have a pic of a DAT DJ Booth in an old magazine, looks pretty cool.

edit: Sumit beat me to it.

I remember reading on this forum that Oakenfold (I think it was) turned up for a gig in China, or something, and he was met with 1 turntable and a casette player. Luckily they managed to aquire another turntable before he started though.

Dunno if it is true or not :o

That has nothing to do with mixing with tapes. It's just a set from Carl Cox recorded on a tape.

I've heard or read once that the old mixmasters also used to cut out pieces of casettes and tape them together.

I'll seach up the site with the mixes done with casettes.

P.S. It's in dutch but everybody understand download :D
