It sais the radio dj's are getting their cocks sucked etc etc

In europe at least from my expirience on tv and on the radio they
play at least more variety on these stupid top 40 channels whatever you call that.
they play dance, rap, rock en
whatever... even trance gets played... So I guess
here is the answer as to why the music stations are so ing boring in north america.

The sleazy deals were no surprise to music fans like Patricia Hatcher of Brooklyn, who was shopping at Tower Records in Greenwich Village yesterday.

"You could definitely tell that they were playing the same artists over and over again," said Hatcher, 25. "I assumed that something was going on. It's kind of shady all around."

E-mails and documents from Sony show it paid up to $1,000 to get a new song played on a single radio station, gave contest prizes to deejays instead of listeners, and even hired crews of callers to bombard stations' request lines, Spitzer said.

Blame it on a corrupt record business that skews the Top 40 by giving free trips and other goodies to radio programmers - and cold cash to radio stations to play their artists, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer charged yesterday.

Big-name artists like Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion and Good Charlotte got airtime on the radio because their labels gave away computers and trips to Las Vegas, according to telltale industry E-mails Spitzer uncovered - and revealed yesterday.

"Payola is pervasive. It reaches to the very top of the industry, on the radio side and the label side," Spitzer said yesterday as he announced the first settlement in his probe of pay-for-play in the music industry....

yeah, but.. we all knew about this already, right? i mean, this isn't something new. not sure about the radio stations where you live but haven't you ever heard the artists doing promo for the radio channel while the tune is playing? no money were probably exchanged but i'm assuming the radio station come to a nice agreement with the label about promo for the station vs the artists tune being played.

and then there are stations that are owned by record labels and vice versa, concerts being promoted by radio stations and probably hundreds of other things too..

maybe i missed something important in the post..?

so if the radio listeners were standing on a lawn and the water sprinkler kept on spraying them with water soaking them, they wouldn't move?

then the listeners are monkeys and really don't deserve better..

I don't know what the big fuss is about this, labels have been doing this since the beginning of radio and no one has really ever been fined. Ask Tongy, what happens in the UK when you play only songs from labels that you co-run or have some financial gain in it. He got fined btw. I don't get what the huff is about, labels have always paid certain dj's to play their top 40 stuff.

I don't condone the practice of pay for play, but this poster has hit the nail on the head.

Several of my very good friends have worked for years in the radio industry in LA and the crap that goes on is sickening. Everything during prime time that is played on commercial radio is bought in one way or other by the labels. But thats just the surface. Its a dirty business. I removed the FM antenna from my last two vehicles :whip:

Something's definitely up with radio. That's why I hate it. It seems that every time I turn on the local rock station I hear Green Day. This "band" of wankers are insulting to my intelligence. So I turn it and I hear some R&B or rap . Great. Just f'n great.

PLEASE CLEAR CHANNEL, PLAY SOMETHING I WANT TO HEAR.

Oh, they "are." And they're shoving it down our throats.

When I get a new ride, I'm going to upgrade my already impressive system so I never have to listen to radio again. Satellite radio might be worth a crap...if it sounded better than an AM radio station.

Pretty much. I mean alot of people are tone deaf anyways. They use music
as an accessory to go with their weekly top-ten-bop persona, and don't really care what's playing.

Artist ringtones, sponsered clothing, herbal essence shampoo, the works.

it's funny though how no one ever admits to being one of "them". and anyway, people are saying that they only listen to what they like, ignoring radio, ignoring tv and simply listening to the music that they like..

later the same evening, said person tunes in to ASOT 354 to see what he/she should be listening to in the coming weeks..

we're really not that different. just a smaller group of people..

Yeah this has been going on for ages in the uk, its nothing new and tbh i cant really see it stopping. It sadly was one of the factors why neo records (http://www.discogs.com/label/Neo+Records+Ltd) closed down back in 2003, On the website for neo records there was once a nice epitah by the owner/manager, it went into great detail into the corruption of the music industry, sadly even the domain has gone now and it just loads up a search engine.
I think its gonna get worse before it gets better, its not about music anymore its all about money, greed and corruption once again
