Take his advice. I too regret getting OSAP. You think paying it back ain't that bad once you finish school and get a job. Well, it's no walk in the park. I can tell you that much. |

You are not alone - OSAP is really tight with a lot of applicants.
Despite having $16,000 undergraduate tuition, they only gave me $3K. I had to take out a line of credit. The line of credit is actually a way better deal - interest is prime+1 (OSAP is prime+2.5) and OSAP gives you 11 years to pay back, meaning you fork over a ton of interest, where an LOC will likely structure it such that you pay it back sooner.
People apply for OSAP because you dont need a cosigner - but it's actually a rip off, IMO. the only nice thing is the interest you pay is tax deductible. |

No, it's no walk in the park, but working part time and going to school part time isn't easy either.
I'm much happier paying off a LOT of debt and starting my career sooner in my career than trying to do both for 5 or 6 or more years. |

And if worse comes to worse, you can appeal.
Financial advisors at schools are pretty sneaky. I thought I was gonna have to do OSAP for a portion of first year and they got me an entrance scholarship instead. Explain your situation to them. The advisors are there to help for a reason. |

OSAP gave me way too much money. For one year at GBC I got about 9k
Before that, I had gotten HALF that amount for each year I was at Centennial...
Thank god for interest relief though.... |

You sure about that? You don't have to pay right now but the interest is compounded. Not sure if that's the case though. |
