Traktor and laptops for clubs?? (pg. 3)

I think it would be a huge let down if I'm in a club, having the time of my life, and then looking up at the Dj to see him leaning over a laptop. Almost anyone could do that.
To be a good Dj, you have to have a solid tracklist, and good mixing. If a Dj doesnt have to do any work and the computer beatmatches all the tracks for him, then where is the talent???
Vinyl + Cds > Traktor and a Laptop. Any day. |

| Plus playing on tractor takes the fun out of looking at a dj. I remember seeing josh gabriel @ Aria awhile back playing off a laptop and it was lame. He wasnt doing anything really except point and click of the mouse. |

| Yeah, but at least, u can concentrate more on the music that u are putting and the interactivity that u have with the crowd... Especially with Ableton, it lets u mixe at another level, makin your set top quality, cuz there are less technical stuff to do, so more concentration on the sounds playing... |

| pffffffft... how would your set be top quality if the laptop is doing the work for you?? the sound would be nice, but your talent is crap. ANYONE can put on track after track, but it takes talent to beatmatch properly with ups, downs, loops etc... |

However, i do give props to djs that use ableton live and are creative with it, but if i see a dj at aria mixing with tractor or a similar program it wouldnt make me too happy. Djing started with vynils, and its proven to be good in every way. There is nothing better then the lush sound of vynil and the little crackling sounds of the needle on dust :D. |
exactly man, vinyls and cd's is really wat u want to see a dj use not a dam laptop. btw well put |

Oh man I remember that night... it was terrible to see him looking into his laptop, no movement, no interaction.. plus he was pissed drunk. But it felt like I was at home putting tracks in winamp  |

Concentrate more on the music? When you have 3000 tracks on ur laptop? For me it would be annoying having such a huge selection of tracks. With vynils, u know your music inside out, so u just suffle through them and bam, you are sure the track is the one you want and it gives you more time to make a solid mix. |

It depends on the Dj's preferences, and after the djs made the best hardware choice for him. Each technology have is positive and negatve point. Each technology need mixing skills. I don't talk about the no pitch stuff :)
I know most of the djs like the turntable feel. So that's why company try to reach the best turntable feel with the cd player.
Dj who's play with Cd have their owns preferences, probably it's more easy to travel, and you can play your last prod faster like Final scratch or Serato.
I use FS2 because I want the feel of the turntable and I can play my prod on vinyl :) It's true that is not stable then real hardware but I'll take the chance. Also, using FS2 helping me to save a little bit $$$$. You buy vinyl at 20$ and you have 2 to 4 tracks each vinyl, in the 4 tracks, you like 2-3 tracks max. And buying digital mp3 at 1,49$ to 3.00$ each you solve a lot of the money at the end. |
