right click device my computer > manage
check to see if the cd drive is there. if it isnt or there is a ! or ? then right click > uninstall, download latest driver and reinstall it. Anything more complicated or serious than that reinstall windows, then reinstall all your drivers. |

What you need to do is right click on my computer then click properties, Click on the Hardware tab then click the Device manager button, Click the + where it says DVD/CD-Roms, If you see the drives in there, right click over it and click on uninstall, After that, Click the icon that looks like a computer with a magnifying glass, It will scan the computer for any hardware changes and redetect the DVD Drive, And that should put the icon back, the reason why you dont see the drive Icon is one, The computer did not detect the drive, two, The ribbon cable may not probably connected to it, Also make sure that the jumpers are set properly on the back of the DVD drive, If the drive is sharing the ribbing cable with another drive, For example, If it's sharing the same cable with a harddrive, Be sure to set the DVD drive's jumper to slave. |
